There was no limit then...you could actually make more than the salary cap itself. Top guys that want it will always go for it if their body allows. The point is guys were actually able to get more money (relatively speaking) earlier with no limits in place. They have an actually cap on what rookies can make and what you can make on your 2nd deal. None of that existed back then. Dudes with potential/nice numbers were getting paid back then too.
