Benicio’s that guy, fukkin’ hilarious in this. Thought the characters for the most part flowed with the material given to them and the espionage elements gave its story a needed kick that would’ve otherwise made its lull moments in the latter half more noticeable, ala Asteroid City.

Wes’ cinematography will always pop to a point where I think charm is never an issue with his stuff, IMO. More-so finding the right balance between his deadpan humor and emotional shifts, which I thought he nailed with Korda here.

We had a little Basquiat reunion with Wright showing up and he definitely could’ve been utilized more. I remember feeling the same way after Asteroid City, homie should get a lead role of his own in whatever’s next. I’m also surprised it’s taken this long for Cera to pop up in one of these films, he seems tailor made for Wes’ stuff.

He stays having the whitest films ever, yet I’ve never seen him start off a film the way he did here. shyt caught me off guard with that explosion and had me paranoid every time Cera’s character would sit in the same cursed spot, lol.

The way it had the camera whip around the room upon Liesl’s slaps, a pick-up game of basketball to seal a business deal, seeing Del Toro and Cumberbatch throwing hands up and down those stairs…fukkin’ absurdity. :russ:

Had watched Ballerina later on yesterday and am still thinking about this one. Can see why folks are burnt out with his post-Budapest stuff, but I like how these films are still very much Wes and yet he’s always reinventing his wheel in some capacity. And if any filmmaker can hit on the emotion, beyond anything else, I’m satisfied. Sinners did that. This one did. PTA will definitely do that come September.

This felt like a proper PG-13 film.

to be honest I kinda linked it. it was all over the place but it was way better than French Dispatch or Grand Budapest
I gotta give French Dispatch another watch sometime. That joint struck me as boring and up its own ass a lot of the times, but…that was a while ago. I’ve watched a lot of stuff since then and maybe I’ll appreciate it more this go-round.

But yeah, would watch this one again in a heartbeat if the month wasn’t so insanely stacked on the movies front. Just an all around funny ass flick that hit the right emotional notes.

You would put this over Grand Budapest tho? Damn. Wouldn’t go that far, but I ain’t mad at it either. :ehh:

I did not fukk with this at all.

Found it unengaging and at no point really had any emotional reaction to anything. Just felt like a bunch of shyt happening to me.

Baltimore
It was solid with some legit good laughs. Del Toro was a great lead and Michael Cera was impressive in his limited screen time.

The horse pickup scene :dead:

I've had no desire to see this because I'm a little burnt out on Wes and he's been pretty mid the past decade. He's also been overexposed in the 2020s. Three movies and four shorts in 5 years

Well this was better than Asteroid City so there is that. But it felt so similar to Wes Anderson's last 3 or 4 films that I chuckled once I believe the whole movie. I don't know what he needs to do but Ole Wes needs to break out of whatever this sameness he has here. He is like an musician who has gotten too comfortable doing one style so now we all already know what his next album is going to sound like. I wish he would go back to filming on real locations like Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdon & Life Aquatic as these new films kind of strike me as small plays that he puts on for his friends. I was pretty bored by the second half of The Phoencian Scheme.
