When you here the term "save the planet" it really means save ourselves. In truth the planet can take more then what we can do to it,,but we can't. The planet can and will bounce back but we cant.

Remember theirs no free lunch, even if we all drove electric cars, that energy has to come from somewhere, the planet is over populated and the pollution alone will eventually drive us to extinction sooner then later, once the co2 becomes too abundant it's curtains for us.

Our current way of life is non sustainable.
No one wants to hear this but we're over populated by about 30-45% .
Projection shows sea food will be almost non existence by 2033, that almost 15ish years from now.

It's not the physical planet but the Eco system that's dying. Also over farming is producing way more greenhouse gases than all transportation put together and us decimating the Amazon.

Not to mention methane-filled permafrost is melting exponentially

the evils of truth, and love
This is like those "be extra careful about forgetting your tap is still on, people in (insert 3rd world country) have no water so dont waste even a drop so we can save the planet" commercials

How?
I'll make it simple.
Let's say you and you wife both work, your jobs represent the earth, your earth makes a combine 100 a year, more then enough for the both of you, a year later you add a child but same income, then you buy a bigger house but same income, then you have 2 more kids same income, then you had to buy a bigger car but same income, that 100 doesn't get you where it use to, not as much food in the fridge, more expensive (kids food and clothes and bills) to go along with a bigger car a new house....your stretched to your max but the kids only get bigger and demand more food and clothes, property tax goes up, next thing you know your living beyond your means which you need scale back (cut cost).
So you turn off cable, cheaper cell phones, but you still have mortgage and car note, maybe refinance if your credit is good enough.
But even if you scale back you can't cut the phones off, you can't sell the house because you need it for the amount of kids you have, you can't sell your car because it's the size you need for your kids.

Your a car breakdown issue or a health issue from having to take out a loan.

Your living a unstainable lifestyle, even if you do a major scale back your still unsustainable.
Making you can work and extra job righy, but with the earth, their is no extra earth to get resources from, you only get one....our way of life is unsustainable period.

We have land and oceans that we are not using or using effectively for resources so I don't buy it. I guess you want the world's population to be lowered by 2/3 as well.

Your completely missing the point, we have the land, that's not the problem.
We use the ocean, the power it take to utilize the ocean would be costly that's why it hasn't been done but thought of.

Look at it like this, you need to consistently make fire =(energy ) but to make that fire you need wood, that's means you need trees, you keep cutting the trees to make fire, so many people need fire their not enough wood to go around, at this point you might think, grow more trees, but the trees don't grow at the same rate that they are being used for wood.....so it unsustainable, if can't understand that I don't what to tell you, just know this "there no free lunch" at some point the damn will be broken

It's not that there is too much people on the planet, it's just that we cannot all live the comfortable 'middle class' life we are all striving for. It's not realistic for everyone on this planet to eat when and whatever they want, own whatever they want, and live where and however they want. We can all live but it will require all of us to use less and live a lesser lifestyle than what most are striving for. But the rich and powerful don't want to live like lower class people, they would rather just kill most of us.
