This is probably the greatest point guard era ever.
Based on what exactly? I usually just let yall repeat this talking point without challenging you to prove it, but its a slow day at work today so allow me to dig deeper for a moment...

Out of the top 25 all time NBA leaders in assist per game only 4 of them are current players (and one is Steve Nash who barely counts)

Out of the top 25 all time NBA leaders in steals per game only 1 of them is a current player (CP3)

Out of the of the top 25 all time NBA leaders in assist to turnover ration only 2 of them are current players (CP3 and Calderon)

Only 1 team in the past 10 years has won a NBA title with their point guard as their best player...

So lets go through this...

1-Not the best era for distributors at the position
2-Not the best era for defenders at the position
3-Not the best era for ball protection at the position
4-Not the best era for winners at the position

But it IS without doubt the best era for SCORERS at the position..It's the only thing that point guards are during better now than in the past..Now mind you there is no statistical impact on how this positively affects their team when the playoffs come and the game slows down to a halfcourt grind..

So the reality is that we aren't in a greatest era of point guards...We are in the greatest era of scoring point guards...Which is the first thing a casual fan notices when he turns on the TV to watch a game...

nba is overrun by short 2 guards aka "combo guards" aka "scoring pgs" or my fav "shoot first pgs" :patrice:

its a difference between being able to score and primarily attacking TO score. makes for gaudy stat lines...and out of sync teammates, lack of offensive continuity and lots of losing.

of course there are exceptions, for the most part. i.e. russy (along w/ kd, their talent is just greater than most) and rose when he's healthy (bulls so built on defense and lack so much on offense, his green light worked for them), but widely, that shyt don't win.

tony parker is the only guy ive seen get corralled into the playmaking arena, which is a testament to how good a coach pop is. either that or he wasn't dumb enough to ignore the best post player of the last 15 years. other than that, those dudes are who they are.

How are cats complaining about so called "ball hogging" PG's when no one used to ball hog more than Nash and Kidd?

I remember Nash used to do shyt like dribble all over the court and even drive baseline and under and past the rim and not even put up a shot:beli:

ballhoggin and teenwolfin are two different things, dog.

ballhogging to me, is the guy that dominates the ball because he wants to shoot.

teenwolfin is running around all crazy for 20 seconds looking for an opportunity for pass or score.

sometimes it can be a fine line, but ballhogging has a history or gunning attached to it. no one has ever mistaken those guys for gunners.
