Am I the only one who thinks names have a significant impact on your life?

For instance if you name your daughter Jezebel you're already setting up negativity in her life.

I feel like I have to pick a name that has a good meaning for everything. Even for something as mundane as internet user names it has to mean something for me personally.

Anyone else feel the same? :lupe:
yes Turkquan :troll:

ETA: i have a cac name....i don't know how I really feel about it. My last name kinda cancels it out since its fairly difficult to pronounce.

I want to name my kids simple African names, or biblical names (though i'm not really active in christianity, but a few of them sound cool to me): like Afrifa (boy), Kesia (girl), Ezanna (boy), Nema (boy), Enshira (girl), Ezra (boy)

i've put this into deep thought.
would like to have my first kid by 28 (was 25 before), hopefully i could honor that :to:

They don't "mean" anything.

If you could outline a child's future by their name, everyone would name their kid whatever means "rich" or "powerful"

It's bullshyt.

Tough question indeed

How much of a disadvantage are "stereotypical black names" though? :patrice:

I dislike European names and how common they are :camby:

You don't necessarily have to give them European names for them to assimilate into larger society. I don't plan on giving my kids European or "stereotypical black names" either :ld:
funny because Jerome and Tyrone are European names.

All nerds like myself know this from Dungeons & Dragons.
Knowing a person or object's true name grants you power over it.

Name Mage (3.5e Prestige Class) - Dungeons and Dragons Wiki

Before you say thats ridiculous... think about the power in it. If a stripper or porn star is getting smart with you and you say 'Simmer down Linda' instead of calling her Candy Apples or whatever she is known to most as, she will immediately yield.

If ToughGuy187 is telling you how he's gonna beat your ass online and you reply with 'Is that so David?' You can practically feel the fear emanate through the monitor.

Name magic is potent stuff.

Name magic exists in the real world. Trust me.
According to D&D rules, a person like Rick Ross (the rapper) is at least a 9th level Name Mage because he has successfully used the spell-like ability 'nametaker':

(from the handbook)

9th level Name Mage may take the name of any target whose True Name he knows. The target still exists, but no one remembers him except the caster. His family is now someone else's family. The stuff he did are remembered as if someone else had doen them. Those who were particularly close to the traget will notice discrepancies ("You say you saved my life at the Battle of the Gate? No, you must be mistaken, Dustin Chronicles did... Wait a minute, I didn't meet Dustin till three months after that battle. What's going on?")
