Pros

+mixtapes are like free albums nowadays
+there is a little something for everyone
+not a lot of beefs that can end up killing one another
+less sampling
+we have a lot of rappers from the past that are still showing flashes of greatness
+a lot of new rappers with talent out
+Chicago is on the rise

Cons
-the best rappers out today aren't as good as the best in the 90's. Kendrick Lamar is really the only rapper out now that is truly amazing and I'm not sure if I can compare his level of greatness to nikkaz like Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Common, Scarface, or 2pac when those guys were in their primes.

-a lot of originally but a lot of copycats as well.

-We got guy that are talented "Tito Lopez, Jay Electronica, Jon Conner, Gemstones" that aren't using their abilities to the fullest.

-a lot of songs on the radio today get old really fast.

How is less sampling a pro exactly?

I do like hearing songs that were made from scratch.

they are creating a new sound instead of reinventing someone else's.

that why I give a lot of credit to guys like El-P

the truth is, they are not samplling songs. they are copying melodies.

you ever wonder why all the songs now have the same build up and break down, bridge, hook.

its because since we started making POP hiphop with a twist of electronic music. we attempted to copy the basic white boy production. doing so means we will use stale melodies. using the same melodies is equivalent to sampling. actually its worse. because when people do it, they use a similar synth sound that they heard being used when they heard the melody. which means all the music will sound similar.

back in the sampling eras, the music as a whole didnt sound stale and alike. this music today sounds alike. even the good songs you already know how its going to build, then the verse, then the bridge, then the hook.

you know exactly whats coming before it happens cause every song sounds the same. or very similar.

The ABSOLUTELY WORSE thing to happen to Hip Hop is everybody and their granny thinking they can rap, and actually having the means to produce their own music...

You don't need to be "nice" any more...

Making hip hop music is like making ammunition and guns in the Khyber Region of Pakistan, any body and every body is doing it...

So, good luck finding anything of high quality...

Disagree with like 99% of the OPs pros....the only one I do agree with is that mix tapes are basically free albums compared to 10 or 15 years ago.

Other than that, the artists suck, and the beats suck. Today not a single artist or album today would crack the top 10, back around 2000-2001.
