The ABSOLUTELY WORSE thing to happen to Hip Hop is everybody and their granny thinking they can rap, and actually having the means to produce their own music...

You don't need to be "nice" any more...

Making hip hop music is like making ammunition and guns in the Khyber Region of Pakistan, any body and every body is doing it...

So, good luck finding anything of high quality...

This is so true :ohlawd:

I agree for the most part, there isnt as much substance in the lyrics anymore. The beats and lyrics are half azz.

But the fashion side if it? Someone wouldve gotten clowned hard or even an azz beatin for wearin skinny jeans and a cheap azz snap back. I feel that some of these rap acts wear different lookin shyt just to stand out cuz they cant stand out lyrically. The game went a lil gay as far as the fashion goes....

like that Nas/Scarface/DJ Premier song we all already forgot about?

You obviously aint forget.

Besides, how many bangers have they laced Ross with?

The Roots make up a lot of their own melodies too. You're trying to make your own opinion fact, and that's just not what it is breh

I think the internet and being able to download music for free has changed the game.

Today artists make their money from their shows, not album sales... So artists not worried about making an album that sells anymore. They worry about making hit singles that will increase their demand in the clubs. So they just hop on a remix or make a single that will get played in the club and put it on a mixtape.

These nikkaz droppin' new music every month... shyt wasn't like that before, you had to wait a year or two to hear from your favorite artist again...

And well, so the amount of music out there is a lot, and with more music out there, the ability to find quality music has reduced...

Is it bad or is it good? I like taht I no longer have to pay for a CD and these nikkaz know it...

Cons

- the marketing is bigger than the music, dont get me wrong nikkas had marketing pre-internet, but now these artists can just do some wild shyt on instagram/twitter and get a lot of undeserved hype

-nikkas are pressured to put out music faster because of "internet adhd" and the result is nikkas not being about to take their time and produce high quality work, nikkas just get burnt out and have nothing to talk about

- we see so much of the artists personal life and thoughts that when it comes time for them to drop an album we get bored because we already know everything about them, this is why it doesnt matter when Jay Elect drops, nikkas are still gonna tune in because we dont really know shyt about this nikka, he's still a mystery and I wish more artists would be lowkey like that

-there's no sense of regionalism anymore and everyone's sound is blending together, the only nikkas that stand out are ATL nikkas because they stick to their shyt :salute:

-nikkas are more focused on selling a lifestyle to impressionable teenagers than actually making good music

-alot of artists are blatantly stealing shyt from other genres, making a shyttier version of it, and are presenting it as some new style that they came up with

Pros
- i can download whoever the fukk i want to whether it be some shyt that doesn't drop for another month or some shyt that's 20 years old

-dont have to listen to bullshyt ass radio or watch BET/MTV praying that the song i like is about to come on

-hear alot of nikkas who will never get the industry push that they deserve

-if a nikka is a fraud they will be put on wshh the instant their card is pulled

-rappers aren't seen as superheroes like how they were pre-internet, we see their humans sides a lot more so they can't put on that tough guy act or it's WSHH time

There was never a time were being "nice" was a requirement to be successful in hip hop

Yes, there was...
In the serious hip hop circles of the 90's, you had to be "nice"...

Of course pop and clown MC's have always existed...

Think about it, when we make GOAT Hip Hop lists, why don't we include MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice even though they had financial success, and they were not lyrically any worse than the average rapper today...?

The answer is simple, they did it in era when you had to be certified "nice" by credible people in the culture...

If Vanilla Ice came out today, and he had the same impact and financial success he had in the 90's, he would be in the debate for GOAT rapper...

That shows you how much the game has changed...
