Yes, the ps2 is the reason for the ps3's failure
I never looked at it that way, but it all makes sense now.
The cell processor is hard to develop for, and most assumed the Devs didn't wanna deal with all that, and hopped on the more easily accessible xbox
There's some truth to that. A lot of truth actually. A ps3 fan would then shout "Man, those dev's are just LAZY" like if they worked on a ps3 game themselves to say such a thing

Why Resident Evil 4 Became a Nintendo Exclusive
Basically it explains how Res 4 became a Gamecube exclusive, and how he came to M$ first to pitch the idea. But the meeting was in japanese and basically philosophies were mistranslated
But the sole reason Capcom wanted to move Res to another console other than the ps2 was because they was fed up with making games on the ps2.
BECAUSE THE PS2 WAS JUST AS HARD AS THE PS3 TO DEVELOP FOR
Once sony decided to make shyt hard again, the developers knew of this waaay before the ps3 launched. Capcom wasn't alone in how they felt, and the rest is history. Til this day, the ps3 is a joke when it comes to selling software...
