Having a weaker cheaper console doesn't make the series x more attractive. Xbox has to take its marketshare back. The series x is competing with the ps5. Eventually the series s will be competing with it but at launch? It's x vs 5. Microsoft has to establish itself this gen and their plan is to have the most powerful console and cheapest price. Eventually they won't be selling systems because the cloud will handle all that. So they can take losses early and often. They will more than make up for it on the backend. Sony will do the same eventually and that service will be brought to you by xbox live (Tru Story) what kind of alliance y'all think they have anyway...

They dont have to beat sony on price, they just gotta keep doing what they've been doing(gamepass, pushing for crossplay, backwards compatibility, just being consumer friendly in general) for the past few years and make sure their new studios push out new exclusives.

It's not as doom and gloom for Microsoft as people think, they're going into next gen as the underdog with a stronger system and a great deal in gamepass, while sony is on some cocky shyt. They can easily win next gen without a cheaper system.
