Then I said I have 3+ years teaching experience as a volunteer for middle school and high school biology and chemistry at an after school program for at risk youth.

So you're a tutor. That's not a teacher. Stop fronting like you're a part of this life. You are not, and it is obvious in your posts. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but you're flaunting your after-school experience around like 3/4 of the college Coli cats couldn't do the same thing you do. Hell, *I'm* a tutor on the weekends.

Until you have, at the very least, taken your certification exams, you're perpetrating. Unless your job can be yanked from you by the state due to some tests and some curriculum that you didn't even write, your tutoring experiences mean absolutely dikk. At LEAST go be a damn substitute teacher. Then you can say that you've been in the trenches. You, my friend, are a babysitter. A valued profession in this thing of ours, but you're not in the teachers' lounge yet.

Yes, I am a volunteer tutor (not on the weekends):mjlol:; but I'm a petrochemist certified by the acs and c(ascp)/sc(ascp) from a previous job :blessed:. Boo hoo my job can be yanked by the state, my job can be pulled from the state also; so what. If the government comes to the refinery; with their own chemist and test me and I don't know what the fukk to do; I'm done. If the government come my job and we are exceeding the storage amount of explosive chemicals, code and equipment are not up to par; the plant is fine and closed down, because the place can explode http://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-explosion-at-texas-city/.

Now, it makes sense; you one of these punkass lazy teachers; that love that tenure bullshyt and got mad at what I said:russ:. What subject and level do you teach?

Texas has no tenure, dumb ass. This is a right-to-fire state. That's why I support it. When you can get fired because a kid lied and said you threw a marker at him - even when your other 27 students write a petition to the principal saying that kid is not only lying but bragging about it - you fukking right I believe in tenure. You would, too.

And because you asked, I teach middle school computer tech AND history (it happens when you teach Catholic school an you're a 4-8 Generalist). I am about to sit for the TeXES 141 exam. Next year, I'll pick up my second master's in library science. and take the 150 test. Y'know...since you asked. But since I mixed my own nail polish a couple of days ago, let me tell you everything wrong with chemical engineering.

Look. I'm in a pissy mood right now because I just learned that on top of being the CT teacher AND the history teacher AND the assistant tennis coach, I've also been signed up to help the middle school drummers. Because...Catholic school. You, too, can work four jobs for $28K a year, pimpin!

Let's call a truce, okay?

I'm not from Texas; I work and reside in CA. I have no problem with tenure for "good" teachers who produce and not for "bad" teachers who do not produce. Congratulation on your masters in library science black excellence http://www.forbes.com/pictures/efkk...ree-for-jobs-library-and-information-science/.

Anybody can mix nail polish; a degree is not needed. You can to go to home depot to get acetone and go to cvs for glycerin. Just don't use methyl acrylate. Also, vinegar and lemon juice work well; because (you know with all those degrees you have) there both acidic. Congratulations on you catholic school job; you earned it. After, I stack more money at my lame chemical job; I'll will be able to sit in the "teachers' lounge," with you. Not really because I will be at low income public school not a "catholic school," because I want to help the kids out that grew up like me. Poor and show them you can make it :blessed:. As soon as they fire those bad teachers; I'll be in the trenches helping out my young brothers and sisters .

Truce......:sas1:

Catholic != privileged. Public schools get that Title I money. (If those schools still don't have shyt, they're being robbed.) Meanwhile we can't turn the lights on in our computer lab because we have no air. We can't even open the blinds. Ever try to teach kids to type in the dark, or have 25 decade-old computers running in a lab that has no air OR light? Our kids may be a lot of things, but rich, they ain't. The Title I district where I interned had Smartboards, Mac computers, flatscreen TVs...the works. Meanwhile, we have this.

you know why the public has a problem with tenure? because a teacher this year nutted in a batch of cookies and fed them to his kids, and the union fought for his tenure AND pension

its like the police union. i GET IT that workers stick together, but they are paid by US. our fukkin money

Yes. The problem is that, like with most issues concerning education, people don't know anything about what tenure is about. (Although just about everyone I know thinks that NY's setup is insane.)

You are the one who suggested that teaching at a private school doesn't mean that I'm teaching at a low-income school. Like I said, Catholic != rich or privileged, although I acknowledge that most of them come from more stable households. I chuckle, however, at the idea that you don't think I've worked in charter/public school settings.

Your kinda just going on a rant.

Gee, I can't imagine why.

Why? (Just curious.) I *do* believe that it can be too hard to fire bad teachers, but the truth is that there aren't nearly as many bad teachers out there as people like to think. They're just the easiest to blame, IMO.

Seeing that most American teachers only last about four years, I'm not seeing this as much of an issue. The turnover rate is massive. That's like being mad at the guys at McDonald's for having guaranteed jobs. It's a non-issue that people have made into an issue.
