the rules back then were so much different :camby: half of qbs in todays league putting up gaudy #s would be injured in three weeks

there was no targeting rule, no helmet to helmet penalty, no below the waist penalty.

they also started calling illegal contact way more after 2004 playoff fiasco

yall acting like qbs back in the day played the same offense-favored game most of qbs of todays world play

smaller guys like bryce young, baker, kyler, shyt my guy purdy, would probably be carted off by midseason in early 2000s :camby:

Baltimore's entire offense was Jamal Lewis and a way out of his prime Shannon Sharpe.

Trent Dilfer was so bad that the NFL and Disney skipped the "I'm going to Disney World!" slogan that was asked to the winning QB of the Super Bowls.

Baltimore's defense literally had to win the games for them. And regardless of the other AFC teams, Tennessee Titans defense was also great and their offense was good too, but the 2000 Ravens defense is unmatched in NFL history.

Ray Lewis
Michael McCrary
Chris McCallister
Duane Starks
Rod Woodson
Kim Herring
Rob Burnett
Jamie Sharper
Peter Boulware
Tony Siragusa
Sam Adams
Adams, Ray, and Woodson were the Pro Bowlers/All-Pros from this defense. Rob Burnett was also an All-Pro that year.

Sherman, Thomas, and Kam were the All-Pros/Pro Bowlers from '13 LOB. You named all these players from the Ravens without naming the other above average positional guys on LOB:

Avril, Bennett, Mebane, Clemons, Irvin, Wright, Wagner, Lane, Maxwell, Shead, Thurmond...

The '13 Hawks were better than the '00 Ravens. But the 2012-15 Hawks are the greatest sustained multi year defense in the history of the NFL. Easily the greatest secondary of all time, that was still able to pressure the quarterback, stop the run, and cover sideline to sideline.

Mf's still won't give the LOB its due.

They are only 13 years apart, we aren't talking an ancient defense compared to a modern one. NFL was more pass happy in '13, sure, but 2000 wasn't some ancient era of NFL football.

The LOB was just a more sophisticated and advanced level of play.

Anyone arguing otherwise has to reset their football standards. Doing what they did in the mid-2010s was a far harder challenge than what the Ravens were doing in the early 00s when the rules still favored defense.

Baltimore literally shut out the Giants offense in the Super Bowl (the TD was a kick return), this was amazing because the Giants shut out and blew out Minnesota in the NFC Championship game 41-0.

You bringing up Seattle, they eventually let their foot off the gas because they honestly should have shut out the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. Baltimore's defense had zero room for error, they had to play serious the entire 60 minutes, and they succeeded.

Offensively, there is no debate, Seattle's offense was light years better than Baltimore's. That is why I give that 2000 Ravens Defense the nod over the other great defenses, all the other teams had good offenses that complimented the defensive side.

That was not some impressive Giants offense to shut out 😂 Tiki wasn't quite Tiki yet, thats when the Giants were doing that "Thunder and Lightning" shyt with him and Dayne. The Hawks whooped up on a QB who put up the greatest passing season in NFL history, that season. The Broncos were putting up numbers on everyone.

Hawks feats were much more impressive, I can keep going but I'll stop for now 🤣

Doesn't matter...it's not a good list. McNair/Old Aikman/maybe Gannon in the right system are starting today (edit: I'll give Brunell the nod). That's it.

And the small QBs you named are just short...other than Bryce they're all 210+

The heights
Imagine calling a defense that gave up 23 points in the entire postseason, gave up 2.7 yards per carry and 5.8 yards per pass completion overrated :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:this Might be a controversial opinion but that LOB defense isn't a top five defense from 2000 to 2025 :hubie: 2000 ravens,2008 Steelers,2015 broncos,2005 bears and 2002 bucs are better the 2013 LOB would be 6th which is is still great :ehh:
