In 5 years ARod will be nearing retirement and Brady, Brees, Manning will already be retired.

The league is about to change and I can't wait.
Its a beautiful thing

We got Manuel, Smith, Vick, Wilson, Kaep, Pryor, Griffin, Newton all starting right now

Soon enough, Bridgewater, Boyd, Hundley and Winston will be starting

shyt is fukked

Hate to contribute to this stupid ass thread but it will probably be cyclical. With the read option there will be more emphasis on running qbs, which favor black qbs. The league will adjust and it will go back to pocket passers, which will favor white qbs....That said, it's all pretty random and it will probably end up just evening out in the next 20 or so years as the lines will get blurred. For example: Manziel is an incredible runner and Bridgewater is an incredible passer. A good QB is a good QB. I realize now that I talked in circles and just wasted 2 minutes writing this, so I go back to my original statement: this thread is fukking dumb...hopefully it gets buried on page 12 so nobody else wastes their time like I just did
Dude this has nothing to do with the read option, that read option is only run fraction of the time, its not the primary offense for most teams with black QBs, I always said that the QB position had to get more athletic period, every other position in the NFL had, it was only a matter of time before the QB position had to. The speed and strength coming from the defensive side is not going to stop, look at a guy like Jadeveon Clowney who runs around a 4.5-4.7, that type of speed and athleticism was never around 15-20 years ago, so what has happened today is NFL teams with nonathletic QBs must surround them with as much talent as possible forcing a team to limit the supporting the other side of the ball (Peyton Manning had this issue for the longest, you see how it happened in Baltimore with Flacco) and can be a real problem if the team does not know how to draft well for defense. Athletic QBs don't need/get quite as much support on the offensive side allowing for a more balanced team. All of your best young QBs, black or white, are way more athletic than QBs of the past. The athleticism is needed in today's game.

I'm all for the successful brotha at QB, but can ya'll review what Parcells said about anointing oils and placing cats in Canton too quickly before these wild prognostications? There's like 5 playoff victories amongst the 8 QBs you listed above, and 2 came with Kaep alone and about 2 come with Vick from a decade ago. Manuel & Smith ain't getting there this year and frankly I think they both don't stand a chance to be successful long time starters. Manuel looked like a happy feet pile of garbage vs. the Jets (and not becase of the Jet D, he just looked like he needed to take a mean dump all game with his mannerisms for 60 minutes) & Geno is just, well, ugh. Vick is at the end of his rope and save for 2010, hasn't been impressive since about 2004 / 2005. Newton hasn't come close to living up to his #1 pick status. Pryor is whatever playing for a whatever franchise and Griffin (who many here are fan of ONLY when it's of convenience) may never be the same again.

For the record I LOVE Russel Wilson and see him and Luck as 2/3 of the Holy QB Trinity of tomorrow.

It's like when Ty got the Notre Dame job & Croom got the MSU job. The media rhetoric both times was on some "the changing face of the NCAA." All I said to that was: "let these nikkas fail and see how fast brothas get chances at those jobs again." It took another 4 years before another black HC was hired by an SEC institution after Croom's dismissal & we know ND ain't trying to hear that right now, even when Brian Kelly is gone.

So let's chill and let it play out. If this crop wins and does something, more will get opportunities. If not, guys will still get opportunities. Just relax with the whole "the big pocket white QB is dead" nonsense. Afterall, weren't they saying that in 2001 when Vick got drafted???

But if they bottom out and don't turn out to be anything special (and we've seen the NFL go wild homicide style on QBs who were better than the majority of the 8 you listed), what will that lead to? I agree that opportunities equates progress, but progress ends if opportunities aren't taken advantage of (see my Ty & Sly Croom analogies). They need to win and as unfair as it may be, win sooner than later.

Thankfully Josh Freeman's suck-ness is no longer tainting the starting black QB pool :blessed:

tony dungy was saying what you were saying

Dungy said he believed that racism had significantly disappeared from quarterback selection in the N.F.L., largely because coaches are desperate to win. The larger issue is how, for all of the talk about golden ages, the pro football establishment has resisted a revolutionary style of play emerging from the quarterback position.

“It’s not as much a black-white issue as it is an unwillingness to trust in quarterbacks who don’t conform to the traditional idea of what a quarterback is,” Dungy said. “If you are not 6-5, 230, you better have something really fantastic and special that people can hang their hat on. Because they don’t want to go out on a limb with what’s not prototypical.”
