Wentz & Goff had 5th year options, Dak had a routine 4 year contract. Dak and his agent couldn't just sit back and wait on those two to get extended, Dak was scheduled to hit free agency a year before either of them (same reason Russell Wilson signed his first extension a year earlier than Luck). If Dallas came to him in summer 2019 offering that $30m he would've taken it and ran.
Instead they sat on their hands, the Rams & Eagles both got their deals done a year earlier than required, that pushed the number past $32/33m, and we landed here with him currently on the tag and Dallas staring at a $40m-$45m clip once they do finally extend him. The Jones family botched it from every angle.

It's crazy how these teams are so desperate to keep/pay mediocre QBs. It never works out. Flacco, Eli, Stafford, Ryan, Dalton, Cutler, Smith, Cousins, soon to be Dak. These NFL teams are disgustingly conservative and afraid to take any chances or move on.
Word. McVay is pegged as a offensive guru. Why feel the need to handcuff your team's salary cap with a QB like Goff? They could still have him on a 5th year option and have more money available for other talent right now.
Watson got "overpaid" because of where Mahomes took it ($50m aav), Wentz & Goff deals had nothing to do with it.
Biggest blunder from any team in the league was Dallas allowing Wentz & Goff, who both had 5th year options, to get extended before Dak. Could've easily had Dak at $30m aav prior to those deals and they blew it.
Everything you said here was beyond false...
Dak was NEVER signing any type of contract until after Wentz got his deal because his agents was always going to go and ask the cowboys for more than Wentz, since Dak has better numbers AND a better head to head record, and actually won a playoff game while Wentz was on the sideline watching Foles do it...
There was no way Dak was every signing anything before Wentz got his deal, and once Wentz got 32 there was no way Dak was taking less than that...
Realistically should be starting over Phillip riversBrissett 27 mill as a back up![]()
These c00nboy Stans delusions
Calling out Wentz and Goff in the the thread title but it was Cousins deal with Minnesota that caused the rams and eagles to get ahead of the curve by offering Wentz and Goff more than Cousins.
Its clear that the Joneses dont believe in Dak. They should have offered him a similar deal to Wentz and Goff two years ago but they didnt.
I only hope Dak takes them to the NFC Championship Game and loses it and they are forced to give him that high 30s deal. Continue their misery and really fukk up their cap situation.![]()

9ers gotta give him 40 right?
Ppl keep saying this. Nobody was saying the market was overinflated until it was time for Dak to get paid, and now all the market evaluations/manipulations want to happen.
Dak needs to get paid. Traditionally when a QBs Dallas Cowboys qbs puts up great numbers, they get paid. PERIOD. Why all the fukking debate? What makes him different from Romo? Aikman? Danny White? They all put the team in their back and got unquestionably paid and trusted with the future of the franchise.
Technically he is white.Because Dak aint white.
I know where Dallas is coming from. Romo didn't set the market, and his first contract didn't set the market. Jones is adamant about not setting the market. But like other players, Jones has a penchant for letting player contracts expire. They shouldn't signed Dak last summer. or even a year before that.
If you're unsure of signing a player before his rookie deal is up, trade them or sign them early at a discount. The same thing happened with Byron Jones.
