It's never a matter of whether or not console devs can "make" a powerful-er box that can "keep up" with PCs. The PC itself is an open system, a console is closed. The parts are decided in advance so they can start mass producing them. Even if they theoretically came up with a super powerful console, it'd be a failure somehow because we've seen people not buy expensive consoles. You saw what happened with the PS3 last gen and the Xloss 1 this gen right?? People aren't paying more than $400 or so for a console. Also, let's say that they do make a next gen console that can provide 1440P/60fps.... Devs will utilize the console to push for 30fps therefore allowing bigger and more detailed worlds, with more complex AI and mechanics going on to make what they desire. You can make literally every single game on PS4/XB1 at 1080P/60fps but then each game would not be the way they were envisioned. Graphics, scale, complexity etc would take a huge hit. Just look at most 60fps and then compare them to 30fps games... the 60fps are usually much more simplistic. You can't have your FFXV at 1080P/60fps with just slightly lowered graphics. You can't get your Uncharted 4's at 60fps. You won't get your Grand Theft Auto games at 60fps. They can very well do that, just be ready to accept that it'd probably feel like a older game that runs smoother. Nobody wants to be playing PS3 remaster looking games on a PS4.

1080p 60fps should be the standard but when these consoles came out for the first time ever they were much weaker than what mid level pcs could achieve. Last gen just sustained itself so well there wasn't a need to push things sooner.

I don't know how they are gonna close that gap next gen, we'll probably see a rise in online subscription prices cause they're gonna have to sell them at a greater loss than they already are to achieve greater performance.

not true at all. Last gen was :flabbynsick: within a year or two.
Nikkaz just wasn't aware of PC gaming because it wasn't as big as it was now back then. Plus everybody wasn't on message boards posting shyt. Dudes BEEN playing games at 1080P/60fps++++ or even higher back in 2009. Lots of last gen games were sub-hd and hardly ran at a locked 30fps. I didn't get into PC gaming again seriously until 2012-2013.

The point was it wasn't weak from the jump. So by the time PCs were better everyone was settled.

Idk...last of us and uncharted 3 remastered are my favorite games of this new gen as far as single player goes and that 60fps has a lot to do with it lol. They look amazing as well.

Uncharted 3 on ps4 is my first play through of the game and I would rather have the way it controls and looks with 60fps over tomb raider

Screenshots of last of us on ps4 look on par with current gen games like tomb graphically
eh, these studios have to spend a bunch of money on all the crap people expect in AAA games. like voice actors, licencing, motion capture, and a ton of promotion. coding higher-res graphics isn't really inherently expensive
..and these games are taking way longer to make hence them coming out few and far between compared to previous generations. The more that bar is moved...the longer the wait and the more money spend putting years into 1 game.

Think about the next time we will see a last of us. Now multiple the technical graphics and next gen level of how it plays and imagine how long that will take along with the money spent during that time. We are slowly hitting that bar where these devs are starting to dumb down a little bit to keep development time and money reasonable to make it worth it.

Previous gens I would see "the last of us" level games relative to the gen come out yearly...now we are approaching 3-5 years for one game! We are getting our first uncharted for ps4 since launch....in April. 10 years ago we'd be on the 2nd or 3rd one easy!
