Gotta be some kindve perks, even dudes who was eating legendary independent still took they shot on a major...I can only guess a better shot at fame which undoubtedly leads to more money....there are paractices in place made to keep a independent artist down....its all politics

shake the politics, level the playing field

these albums are being downloaded left and right.. album sales are down across the board

The cats who are at an advantage will never give up that advantage....it would be great if everybody was on a level playing field so to speak and the politics weren't involved...I'm curious to see how T.I handles his situation...somebody at his level has all the contacts you'd think he'd need....even if labels weren't involved though pushing an agenda it would probaly just still go back to who has the most money behind em on a independent level so its probaly the same thing.

Cause the young MCs want to strive to be legends that will last longer than a year in the industry. If there is one things that the old heads done right, was instilling guilt to the younger generation and make them do better by making cohesive albums.

answer was already given... but imagine if zero money was made off music sales, what happens to producers?

***snorts 32seconds*****

I say they get 3-5% of the show money, the artist get the rest, artist put music out for free, tax fans on show side, since thats how alot of artist eat anyway, have the street team hand out new music, etc, on to the next show. Rinse Wash and Repeat.

Alot of producers email artist free beats anyway.

Its plenty of artist with no albums eating real good of mixtape albums,K.r.i.t ate good before he dropped his debut.

Death to the labels, artist will actually have to break a sweat live and earn that k.

Timb aint nothing without Jerome J-roc Harmon, as of lately anyway, anything that has timbaland name on it recently 98% of the time J-roc name is right next to it.

Timb and the Neptunes can eat off of other genres, the one trick ponies will be content, the heavy hitters already got their own lane, and can do stuff outside of rap.

With Kanye & Wayne's most recent projects going gold and Def Jam literally dropping albums left and right with no promotion that shyt got me wondering...

Why fukk with a major? You don't even need to flirt with/dance with the devil anymore

You have free promotional tools that allow you to interact with your haters/fans 24/7 and websites like livemixtapes and Datpiff to drop your music directly for download.

Agents can still book press and shows, videographers can still shoot videos. It almost ensures that fans will spend their hard on money to support you if the attend a show.

It eliminates the mainstream/underground distinction by leveling the playing field

Kanye and Wayne already had massive fanbases. Those artists are horrible examples to use here.

The only way you going to come up without backing from a major label is if you find the right producer when he is just starting out and he laces you with hot beats for damn near nothing. A rapper going the indie route is not going to be able to afford beats and features from big artists. Think about it, if random rapper A releases a track with a mediocre beat and featuring some dude from the block nobody is going to hear it. Put Kanye or Wayne on that same mediocre beat and people will listen just to hear what they are bringing to the table.

Wayne been on mediocre beats since Mannie left the building, hell he had Mannie and Jazze pha on the same album at the same time and made Tela look like Rakim.
