As one would probably expect, part of the reason TNA decided to put their world title on Eric Young was for the cross-promotional opportunity with Animal Planet, reports PWInsider. Season 3 of Eric's show on their channel, "Off The Hook: Extreme Catches", debuts on Sunday, June 16th. TNA will use the next couple of months to push Eric Young as their champion to coincide with the return of his show.

Additionally, the report states that TNA will be doing all they can to distance Eric Young from the comedic character he once played, developing him into a credible champion.

The thing about EY though, even when he was doing the comedy, he always put on solid matches and showed a lot of fight. Also, the fans always liked him.

That time he went heel, he held that down really well, he was always allowed to show his in ring skills unlike other comedic wrestlers who you always he "legends" about how they're so legit but never have solid footage of it.

the difference is, eric young is a credible all-around talent. unlike alot of the wwe champions in recent years.

if it wasnt for the hogan/bishoff regime coming in and screwing him over, he wouldve had a legit title run by 2012.

i just dont like the way theyre doing the sudden-title run & character switch on the humbug.
