Is a combination of:
Getting older and different hobbies
Having more disposable income thus taking more chances on games that you would not have asked mom for.
Focusing only on consoles when the focus is slowly moving away from that model.
Relying too much on review score sites like metacritic to justify why you will or won't buy a game

It's only going to get "worse" if all you are doing is obsessing over the fact that games weren't like "the good old days". Go back to playing PS2 games now. I guarantee you that you won't last long with much of the library. Most of the ones worth playing have been "remastered" and thrown everywhere...at this point I expect Capcom to port Resident Evil 4 to the Apple TV.

This generation has been fine IMO. It started a little slow, but there have been some pretty damn good games that have been released on all consoles. In fact, I actually think the Wii U is much MUCH better than the Wii despite the slow sales.

I have been back and forth with this shyt with several on here for a while. For example, @Ciggavelli and I disagree with how much we focus on ratings these days. If I were to go on ratings alone, I would not have grabbed Street Fighter V and I love that damn game despite it's flaws. Is it a 95 out of 100 when you start checking off things? No, but it's FUN to me and that is all that matters. Should @Fatboi1 be on suicide watch if Uncharted 4 comes out and doesn't get a 90+ across the board? It's not that damn serious man. Those sites like metacritic and all aggregators are FULL of people that use the scores to strengthen their position. Confirmation Bias as to why they won't get the Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo console.

ZOMG HALO 5 is not even an 85 overall! WOW, what a TERRIBLE GAME. I don't even have to play it because it's a HALO GAME UNDER 90!!!!! OMG, XBOX LOST! @MeachTheMonster LOST!

Stop paying attention to review scores and you will be happier with your games guaranteed. There is such a thing as TOO much information, just ask those who have taken facebook vacations.

Now this is not to say that this generation doesn't have it's problems.

Server issues are a HUGE problem, but that's mostly due to the technology behind the scenes. We are still not at a point in where companies can simulate how servers will act once you have millions of connections getting on at the same time. It's nearly impossible to predict how things will react once online. One of the best ones to handle it this generation was actually Titanfall (one of my favorite games this generation).

The PS4 and XBOX ONE should have launched with 1TB drives from the jump.

Nah it's pretty shyt

They should bring back classic games from Sega because I have more fun playing those than most of the newer games

Games just need innovation
I am glad you brought that up. Let me know what game from the sega catalog you will want to finish today :dead:

Sonic is outdated and will never work today, gamers expect more...it will be shyt quality like most of the Sonic games in the past 17 years have been :dead:

You want Ecco The Dolphin HD? Gunstar Heroes? Those games had their time and it's best they are left in the past. How about Vectorman, you really want to play that?

Besides me being on suicide watch for UC4 and Persona 5(It's a conspiracy against Sony I swear), I agree somewhat.
Having access to way more games made my taste and tolerance MUCH higher than before. On PS2/GC days and somewhat during the PS3 days, I'd just buy games based off of box arts but reviews to me were solely pulled from EGM and Gameinformer.

Other than that, you bought the games that people talked about around you and that was that. A game had to be REALLY bad for you not to enjoy it. I played lots of crap games that I wouldn't dare touch today if what I have access to today had been around back then.

As for console focus, i don't get your point. Console games will always be around somewhat. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

As far as this gen sucking in terms of games, it doesn't "suck" per se but compared to PS3/360 days, there hasn't been any groundbreaking AAA games yet compared to last gen during this timeframe. By 2007 you had Halo 3, Gears of War 1, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Uncharted 1, Modern Warfare, TES:Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and a bunch of other piff games that compared to right now doesn't exist. There isn't a Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Uncharted or MW type game out(yet). UC4 comes out in less than two months so there's that(I think it'll be MUCH better than what people expect it to be from what I've been reading/seeing and heard.)

Gears 4
comes out later this year but I'm not sure if the new company gonna do it justice. COD has been pretty bleh lately and Battlefield imo is overrated and is more of the same since last gen so I don't even count it as next gen yet.

Mass Effect is next year. That leaves us with FFXV, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Persona 5 and a few other BIG games to see if this gen starts going AAA wise.

Halo 5 having an 85 is pretty bad because Halo traditionally has launched with amazing campaigns and MP but having a MP that's "not really halo" from Halo experts(like @AkaDemiK ) and a weak single player is looking rough. There' s no reason why Halo should be like this right now. I don't care for the "Who plays ___ for ____" argument because it's bullshyt. Halo 1-3(and reach if you want) has always had crack SP AND MP regardless of what you think.

MGSV coming out and being really divisive among fans is not what I'd call a success. It's not a "I like this MGS more than that one but it's so hard to choose" situation, it's a "This MGS is really disappointing man" vs "I love this game, GOAT haters kill yourself" which imo is something that's not good for a franchise. You look at the Bloodborne thread I made recently and you notice it's damn near unanimously loved and regarded as an amazing entry and no one really says it's bad or disappointing. You look at the MGS rating thread and WAY more people think it's good despite really disappointing with some saying it's outright bad and less than that who think it's amazing. Even if you think the game is the best thing since cooked crack(Juelz Santana :wow:), you can't dismiss all complaints people bring up.

So yeah, this gen is pretty wack when BIG games like MGS comes out and is divisive among fans, Halo 5 having a weak SP and MP that's not traditional Halo, SFV weak on content at launch, bloated open world games like TR that's a joke compared to it's original games, a Final Fantasy that has a lot to prove after bad entries lately, and lots of delays and slow output from Sony 1st parties.

If you don't play those type of games then I can see why you might not really care but for someone who buys consoles for these games, having most of them have undeniable faults is not a sure sign of a great gen(SO FAR). I think by the end of this year some of the games slated will be a huge success in terms of quality by fan remarks and not ratings. I say that because that 93 on MC for MGSV for example is a fukking joke. That game is not a 93, more like a 86.

In short, this gen got some ways to go before I say it's amazing. There hasn't been much memorable games yet that stick with you. There was lots of trash last gen too, I know people just tend to only remember the good shyt but right now I'd say people say "this gen suck" because we're actively filtering out the crap atm.

Nah I'd just rather have the OGs

Games don't get outdated I never understood that, people say goldeneye is unplayable but to me it's still good , I'm just more of a classic person

Sonic games can still come back. You tripping. Sonic Generations was amazing. This gen needs more original games. I'm about tired of every game being about leaderboards, party coop, open world adventures with a jazilion things to collect with dudebro blood and violence. NIkkaz be really wanting extreme violence in EVERY game like :dahell:? This gen needs some games like Okami, SOTC(TLG this year though), Ratchet(Next month :wow:) and shyt.

Cats want the good ole days back but consistently trade in their games to get that new new.
Bunch of :old: gamers who want that old feeling back without realizing that those feelings were experienced through the eyes of an easily impressed adolescent.
Gaming is still progressing by leaps and bounds. If you like the old games eBay is always available, or you could just stop flipping your $60 for $15 just to buy the next $60 game that you'll end up regretting as soon as someone you never met in real life tells you that they think the game is whack even though they never even played it themselves.

I like this gen so far. 2015 was a great year. 2016 looks good too. You know how I feel about metacritic so I won't go there :manny:

But you make a good point about getting older and more disposable income. We play more games now, because we can afford them. That means we're disappointed more. But I have no problem with this gen, whatsoever.

By 2015 we had:
GTA V
TLOU
DIABLO III
FEZ :wow:
Rayman Legends
Titanfall
MGS V
Bloodborne
The Witcher 3
Fallout 4
Super Mario Maker
That looks like a stronger lineup compared to 2005-2007 :ld:

You guys need to calm down man

Okami was released in 2006...about 5/6 years after the PS2 and GC were released.
SOTC was damn near the last heavily pushed game on the PS2. ICO was released in 2001 though :wow:

I ALWAYS get chills when I just think about when I first reached the final battle :wow:
