I fukk with Van heavy and like Jomi and Steve but I have such a hatred for Charles that I can't stand to listen to the pod. I didn't like dude pre-pod as everry time I'd read one of those Ringer group articles there was always 1 or 2 people that you could tell were trying way too hard to be contrarian or have hot takes. Eventually started recognizing his name after seeing it enough.

Plus he reminds me of the black dudes that were really square (nothing wrong with that) but then would try to black it up when getting around coller black folks. It reminds me of Kendrick's "we don't wanna hear you say nikka no more".

My main issue with Chuck is that his takes are neither insightful nor funny, so his contrarian gimmick doesn't contribute much to the show, except when Van just calls him out on some bullshyt and Chuck goes "WHAAAT" and they all make fun of him

About to start this, I know Van gave a review on Bill's podcast, said Jafaar gave a great performance, Nia and Colman were great, but it was a bad movie. The last Midnight Boys episode the rest of them pretty much hinted they didn't fukk with the movie either.

I hate you guys. Like HATE. It’s not even that yall have criticisms. That’s fine. It’s just that you guys have made up whole books of fan fiction to justify the shyt you say.

The funniest one is that we’re covering The Boys because I’m cool with Laz. Hey idiots, I’ve been around this town a while now. I know someone on your favorite show. It wasn’t even my decision to not cover invincible. We didn’t cover it last season, and that wasn’t my decision. The MNB do things as a committee.

The second is the obsession with Charles. Charles is a hyper critical voice. His place on the pod is vital. We don’t aim to be uncritical. But let’s face it, i kinda am. Im a big fukking kid who cries over Superman. We need an adult voice. That’s who he is. As long as he’s doing it in good faith, which he is, he makes the pod go. Also no other pod in this space has a guy like him.

Third is the dictating of what we DO cover. The guys get excited about a movie and they want to talk about it. That’s it. Nothing more or less to it. We are not your robots, our likes might not align all the time. We try very hard to stay on theme, but a lot of what’s happened the last two years with the content has threatened the very EXISTENCE of the podcast. So a lot of our experimentation was about survival. We’ve always been a very healthy podcast, but this space HAS NOT. Go look at some of your other faves doing movie rewatches on films from like ten years ago and shyt like that.

Don’t dikkride when you see me or in the replies either. I don’t respect it. But remember these guys are brothers to me. It’s different than it’s ever been on any pod I’ve ever been on. Even if I’m a bad big brother, I am one.

You know it's bad when they doing a draft of white washing Sinners. I already felt the draft pods were filler, them admitting it's filler is another thing though. They need to expand their criteria or something. I know it's foundation is nerd culture but I'm willing to bet people just fukk with them and would watch/listen if they covered shyt outside of nerd culture. Or at least do some retro reviews or some shyt instead of these drafts. Cover some shyt like Blankman/The Phantom/Meteor Man etc.

I guess ppl on reddit were mad they weren't covering more nerd shyt? Or maybe they were mad they covered something like Michael?

They’ve been going at Van’s head the past few weeks about them not covering Invincible. I’m sure it’s a lot of other shyt too.

I think there’s a huge downside with being too in tune with fans. As another poster said everybody is talking about the shyt they are but people fukk with them because they have chemistry.

Is not discussing Invincible a mistake? YES
Especially when it’s better than any other show going but fukk it that’s their decision. I don’t give a fukk what they talk about because they make me laugh regardless

Yeah, it seems they haven't been able to completely find their lane even though it's pretty evident a lot of people love their chemistry and will listen to them regardless of the topic they are covering.

But it gotta be hard though. The Ringer has pods for basically everything in pop culture and the Midnight Boys came in very late compared to all the established shows. My guess is they'd feel some type of way if they start covering the same stuff as other people or copy too much of a gimmick/concept.

That's why I joked months ago they gonna end up forcing Van to watch anime because that's like the one (hugely) popular thing the Ringer doesn't cover at all and Van & the crew could have some hilarious content with a ton of popular shows and feel completely unique from the rest.

It seems people been very critical about them not covering Invincible which on one hand makes sense because it's the type of show that totally fits the Midnight Boys and they did cover it initially. But on the other hand it's crazy people complain so damn much about what they cover and what they don't.

Reddit has always been a cesspool though, it's wild to me that we are in 2026 and people that cover pop culture still take it so seriously. I've read some of the other Ringer subs and it's the amount of fantasy writing and projection they have going with pretty much every pod. TMB ain't no exception I guess.

The pod addressed the reddit post. Van stuck to his guns and said fukk anybody on the type of bullshyt ppl on that reddit were doing. He also explained how shyt gets chosen to cover, some shyt clashes with their shooting schedules and personal lives.
Apparently the pod almost broke up at one point.

He also mentioned that he wants the midnight boys community to be better than the star wars/marvel/dc/ people with their toxic shyt, attacking the creators.
I understand his point but the thing is that's gonna be hard because the theme/foundation of the show is based on covering stuff with the most toxic fans, so of course those type are gonna gravitate, especially online in places like reddit.

He says they will be more transparent to the audience when it comes to how they select shows and stuff.

It's a fine line for them because if you are only covering nerd culture and nerd culture is mostly trash, at least the popular shyt, then what is left for you to do? You can't completely shyt on everything you watch but you cannot come across as a sellout either. You need good nerd culture movies and shows for the podcast to be sustainable.
