The Undefeated is shyttin on the Ringer. Bringing that real about real issues, with better writers too.

I've said before that I'm a huge Bill Simmons fan but he's definitely lost his touch. You can tell when he gets to talking basketball that he doesn't watch nearly as much as he used to. His guests aren't nearly as interesting as they used to be. I think he's dipping his toe in too many areas instead of focusing on what got him where he is. He's become the old guy surrounding himself with younger people thinking they're cool just because they're young.

Yea the main thing missing is the homework. If it aint the Celtics he's losing perspective on the rest of the NBA and misjudging players, teams & coaches.

The interview part of the show is pretty good. His opening monologue is terrible. He's not naturally funny or charismatic enough to pull off the jokes..Even if they are well written..
Interviews a way too short. He should have an hr show w/ just a guess. The Rodgers interview was good, shoulda been longer

the articles aren't that great and the format and color is ugly. plus just throwing every article on the front page is sloppy and the only good podcast is Bill Simmons imo. it's off to a bad start for sure.

his show is pretty bad as well. live sports talk is an outdated format so i'm not sure why he would go with that direction.

SI is probably my favorite site for reading articles right now. they're consistently putting out quality work.

All the writers have the same generic opinions similar to Deadspin. What happens when these guys become corporate shills is they think that appealing the the Upper West Side audience is the way to go. It's boring.

Yeah. It seems that with The Ringer, Simmons is trying to appeal to a different audience, one that he thinks (or more likely than not, has been told by some of his new tech buddies) is the future of digital media. And with that, we are getting a half assed, uninteresting product that just goes for quick takes on anything.

What format should he go with?

the show or website?

for the website, idk what CMS he should have went with since i didn't research it, but a format that had more structure/compartmentalization such as quicklinks to basketball, football, baseball, boxing/mma, politics, tech, music, pop culture, movie, etc. would be nicer. they pump out so many articles that stuff gets drowned out. i've scrolled down for a while and came across good articles that were written 1 day ago that got drowned out by silly 2 minute articles about a prop in a movie, a show/actor/actress no one has ever heard about or care about or what irrelevant athletes do in retirement or some irrelevant info about a small town a person came from. plus splitting it would help promote their podcasts more.

for his show,

he should've went with something that didn't require him to be in front of the camera so much since he doesn't have the energy or personality for it. maybe an outside the lines type where strictly reports stuff and bring in ppl for insight. maybe something that starts the show off with a 30 minute documentary about a subject and issue and then bring in a guest or panel to talk and/or debate about it. a 1 on 1 discussion is cool in audio format but in video can be boring. no one wants to sit down to watch two ppl talk when we already have podcasts and radio. skip and stephen a smith can pull it off because of their energy and controversy.

idk just my .02 right now. the site and show is young so i'll give it time but it just seems to be hot takes and cater to young hippies.

He's admitted that one of the reasons Grantland eventually failed was because their articles were too long for the way today's blog readers are consuming information. Grantland never updated their website format to adjust to smart phones and iPads which is how most people received their info now. Given that his podcast network is probably the one I listen to the most with his show, the watch and nba shows...
