It definitely got back on track when Diesel came back but his return only made $17 million more than the previous real F&F movie in the franchise (nobody counts Tokyo Drift ) with Tyrese and Paul.

The box office numbers are available and there's a direct correlation of adding the Rock to the franchise and it blowing up (even bigger). They didn't (and weren't going to) start breaking records until Rock joined the cast. They topped out at around $150 million on the biggest movie with Diesel. Once Rock joined the franchise, they hit $210, $220, $230 and $350 million, with each movie doing better than the last. It's hard to deny that Rock stimulus package.
