People are so QUICK to vilify black men simply because they were successful when others were not.

Black Thought is legitimately one of the best rappers of all time. Objectively top 15 (He’s in my top 5) HE wrote those lyrics. HE put in that time on stage from show to show. Tour to tour. Cypher to cypher.

Questlove is a great producer, talented musical visionary, and award winning director. He’s corny as fukk, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he EARNED what he got. I would never say Thought or Quest got what they got because of kowtowing to white people or c00ning or any of that shyt. If ANYBODY got it out the mud its those two.


Maybe there’s validity to the lawsuit. Maybe there’s not. But give them the benefit of the doubt before you reduce these two BLACK MEN’s accomplishments to something a grieving wife and an insane groupie has-been singer allege.

The Roots are REALLY just Quest & Thought. That's it. No one else should be on the paperwork, it just doesn't make sense if they have no say so in anything. Yes it looks good, it feels good, but it creates a mess when people want to go in different directions. Especially since the Roots make all their money touring, their records don't sell that well. In Hub's case, I see it from all points of view. His wife will likely get something unless there is some information I am missing.
Malik hasn't been doing anything on behalf of the Roots for the longest. He never toured with them, instead he went back to Philly and ended up getting hooked on drugs. Dude left the fold in 1999-2000.

It's really sad to see how quick y'all are to say fukk this man and his widow..

First off, it doesn't matter what YOU think someone contributed or when you think they should stop getting paid.. What matters is in the contracts. And if me and 5 guys cut up shares of a company, you don't get to fukk me out of it, just because I exercised my right to retire. This is basically what happened to Facebook and we see how that went. Doesn't matter how high you start flying, you don't just get to cut other people out of contracts.

If Thought and Quest is all that matters, then they should have thought about that then, signed a 50/50 deal with each other, and paid the rest of the band in up front fees. But see they didn't have the capital to do that. So they did what most people do, sign a partnership. Then when it blows and you find out who the stars are (or biggest contributors) you want to sliiiiiiiiiiiiide back out the deal.

And then to threaten to cut the man's health insurance. Because he don't want to let you cut him out. To go and forge paperwork and do it anyway. Nah that's slimy if true and the roots are legends. I hope this ain't true.

I knew an original member of the group that appeared briefly on The Organix album, and he had nothing but negative shyt to say about ?uest and Tariq for years. And this is back in the 90s. And one of my best friends was very close to Malik B in the last few years before he died. Malik wasn't as bitter but he wasn't fond of them either.

On a slightly related note, it's always funny seeing cats who idolize the wackest of garbage ass rappers rush to celebrate any potential slights or downfalls from artists that champion quality of art in their music above all else.

If that changes, you got options, create a new group, go solo etc, why go shady by default?

I attended the NY Black Lily a couple times before Jag's album came out. When Flo Brown was still around and Quest was trying to push the boring Jazzyfatnastees.

Malik would pop up occasionally and I then understood why he doesn't perform with them. Jag had a voice, charisma & swag but she already on some big momma superdiva shyt before she even made real money in the game. Really obnoxious and loud, and the music wasn't memorable. It would be my least favorite part of the night when she went on, same for whatever young lady I was there with at the time. She's been through a LOT, but the person she is now isn't drastically different. She isn't trying to help Malik, or Flo Brown or anyone else. Flo never popped out to cosign what she said, Malik's family never popped out to support her either. She's just ranting about something new.

Recently she went to her husband's barbershop to try to fight him, and has another dude in their home. Same guy who was in the car supporting her when she popped out recently. Don't fall for the BS
