Nas was lashing out at anyone associated with Jigga - and may have taken issue with the fact that during the Unplugged shyt the Roots played portions of Nas songs during Takeover. Moreover, on What they Do, the Roots lampooned not only the player shyt in rap but the tough guy genre as well. It was mocking a wide variety of genres. Backing up Jay 4 years after that does not make the Roots sellouts - that is weak bullshyt.

I'd like to hear an argument about how the Roots have compromised their art for monetary gain? If someone can give me a few examples of that maybe I'll reconsider my stance that the Roots aren't sellouts.

That being said...I had no idea about the bullshyt that Costello said - I wonder if it will be addressed on the album...I wonder if the Roots even know. Have they said anything about it?

I'm not gonna make a judgement over an out of pocket comment one man made while liquored up. Elvis Costello, though I am not a fan of his music is a great musician and has been in the game more than 30 years, furthermore every project with the Roots has been very solid if not excellent, I will not pass judgement until the music hits my ears.
