you really gotta ask that? I dont even have the S3 (played with one) and i dont have a Note 2 yet but ican tell from the reviews that its is. quad core processors, god like battery (saw a 6400Mah battery for sale 
), clear,crisp screen, and its a phablet. The real questions is why havent you tossed ur current phone in the bushes yet 
and copped one?

I've got the first note. Heard there isn't much of a difference to upgrade from the first besides battery size being slightly larger, 1.6 ghz processor compared to 1.4 ghz of first note and 5.5 inch screen size compared to 5.3 screen of the predecessor.
