If you've been diligently building a collection ofSimpsons episodes on disc, you're in for a rude surprise. Show runner Al Jean has revealed that Fox is discontinuing disc releases of the long-running cartoon. As sources confirmed to us and The Hollywood Reporter, the studio doesn't believe there's a point to hard copies at this stage -- now that you can watch The Simpsons online, it "made more sense" to focus on internet services. With the show constantly airing around the world and in heavy rotation on FXX, it's a bit more accessible than other series even though DVD and Blu-ray are still big business.

The Simpsons' long run and availability makes it a unique case, but the rise of apps and streaming services bidding for rights means other season-by-season TV boxed sets could follow. All in all, it's bad news for completionists that value having an offline copy and so far there's no good replacement for that. Now that Fox is trying it out, our only question is which series will leave the shelf for the cloud ext?

Not a fan of this, as it this will make it harder to find free streams of an episode years after they air. Look at how hard it is to find an episode of Black 90s sitcoms, a lot of them shyts aren't even on the net.

Look, guys.. we in the future already. When I was a kid, there was no internet, no cell phones.
We had tapes and records. I recall the yellow thingy to put in the smaller records. I recall seeing an 8-track in the house (tape not a player) One of my friends got voicemail on his home phone :gladbron: it was a tape player basically that records. No digital, no HDD's. shyt, I had to use codes to save games on my NES.

My point is, now we moving into the digital age, we in it already. My mother still wants to collect VHS tapes that she will never watch there.. but would watch it when it comes on digitally just like everyone else.
You collectors. Nobody will give a shyt about a dusty ass DVD disc in 10yrs. Your children will go "WTF is that" The world will be like :mjlol: when you pull it out. Answer this, who here has a VHS collection they still VALUE

Nah, I get you but you're jumping off the edge...

Dude's just want the DVD sets for the convenience. You're somewhere without internet access or you just want to watch a couple seasons when your streaming service of choice either doesn't have said season or that show is EXCLUSIVE to one service (e.g you got Netflix, but that shyt is only on Hulu)

Nobody said you had to be a collector so you're overreacting... Owning some seasons to a few of your favorite shows doesn't make you a collector.... You like that one particular show and want to actually on the shyt for convenience.

I didn't post it because of the Simpsons (TV show) I posted to discuss the continuing death of physical media (technology)
Even my phone company is pushing this spotify shyt. The entire industry is probably salivating at the thought of everything being digital, thus getting rid of manufacturing costs, but still charging high rates lol
