It doesn't matter if they had a truce. A business deal is only as good until a better deal comes along. For all we know it could have been one of the other families in NY lookin to make a move.

It was left ambiguous for a reason. Fact is it could have been anybody. I'm sure there were lots of people out there that wanted Tony dead for their own specific reasons.

Also don't forget they killed Phil in front of his wife and grand kids. That's a huge no no. So maybe as payback that killed Tony in front of HIS wife and kids.

Exactly..but, I do think Chase is being slightly disengeunous when he says that 'it's all there and we were;t trying to be pretentious or difficult' or words to that effect….I always thought that even if the ending is death, that it would happen in that way, at that time….It didn't have to be cute or a twist ending, but it's so abstract and loose….

i kinda agree even tho i like the ending.. i think it had to do with bytch ass journey too.. they said they wouldnt let chase use the song because they didnt want it to be remembered as tony sopranos kills scene with his brains splattered.. i wonder if journey wouldnt have acted like homos if chase would of showed it

I didn't like the ending. I thought it was a cop out because the writer didn't have the balls to commit either way in terms of killing him off or him living. I don't think contrived ambiguity makes something better either, so miss me with that. The fact is they had a hitman in the diner acting squirly as hell and glancing at Tony, and had him walk into the bathroom as if to retrieve the murder weapon then come out of the bathroom from his POV, but they didn't have the balls to pull the trigger.

i never really gave much thought to the ending when i saw it. i figured it was just david chase's way of saying it just goes on the way it went on before the show started. meaning they dont show what happened before the first shot of tony in dr melfi's waiting room and they dont show what happened after tony having dinner with the fam. now that i read that explanation though, its obvious he died. wow ive been rewatching it and im up to season 4 episode 11. i cant wait to get to the last episode again.
