juvenile was right up there with them.
and master p was bigger than all of them.

if no limit & cash money were flashes in the pan, then what was DMX??
juvenile was not on hovs level in the late nineties
The late nineties is literally how jayz became jay z. Look at his career and look at theirs:stopitslime:

Master p wasnt bigger than them either

Folks were hating on the south’s sound back when legit heat was coming out of her in the late 80’s/throughout the 90’s. Maybe shyt would be different if fhe earlier southern sound was as embraced as the current shyt is. I mess with Rah Digga but she can :camby: with this shyt

Exactly.

I love traditional NYC hip hop like I love traditional Southern hip hop.

I can still easily find traditional Southern hip hop, but I have to dig deep to find traditional NYC hip hop.

Y'all nikkaz can keep garbage like Ace boogie with the Woody. The nikka is garbage

I don't think everything needed to be boom-bap, but the south, with the exception of a few artists/groups, certainly didn't concern themselves with maintaining the standard of 'skilled MCing' set by the east coast. I don't think 'being nice' mean as much in any other part of the country as it did on the east coast.

The south used rap purely as a hustle.

The problem with that is, because of rap's influence, being simple-minded AND ignorant as fukk became cool. Entertainers are trend setters, ESPECIALLY in our community, and especially rappers.

And someone up above hit it on the nail: I've heard soooo many people dismiss rappers with skill. 'We don't give a fukk about that bullshyt!'

I'm proud to say I've never had a friend or even a close associate who didn't appreciate lyricism. I don't think it's a reach to say, there is a connection between that, and every single one of my friends and associates being regarded by the people that know them as highly intelligent.
“fukk rap, I’m tryna make cream and that’s that”
Wasn’t no southern nikka who spit that
Y’all werent complaining about skill when you was bumping Mims tho

na...he was putting on a fake/exaggerated accent:lolbron:

where are you from¿

:lolbron:

maybe go get your ears checked¿

*

Im from NY of southern background. 50cent sounds like a NY afram w/o a distinct southern tinge when he's not put on a fake accent

outside maybe the drawl caused by him being shot i don't hear what you hear*

50cent doesn't sound southern outside of specific rapping/musical settings. That's why I posted the videos with him being interviewed so you can hear his real accent.

ok his music doesn't sound southern to me either*

ok that's how you feel

feelings are not facts

exactly...NYC pioneered that TOT in hiphop, not the south

"I'm not a rapper, I'm a hustler" movement was the beginning of the end of Hip Hop

Low key Jay-Z kind of messed up Hip Hop...

by 2002, the south had already took over even though north east was still putting in work

The dipset gunit/50 cewnt influence was bigger than anything in the south in the 2000's
get rich or die trying was bigger than anything from the south during that time period

Dipset even influenced how hip hop dressed
