A lot of NY don't even respect their pioneers. If you say that if you like Public Enemy or KRS or any 80s artist, cats call you lame. Hell, a lot of them still hate Nas.
The worst part of all of this is that NYC isn't keeping it's essence. They're trying to sound like the country bama's they made fun of in the 90's. First they copy gang banging from the west when they mocked us for it in the 90's and now they're doing the same with southern rap :russ:

nah we content with ours bruh bruh :pachaha:

u content with settling for less?
theres a reason why people always talk about bringin ny back
we all know its nowhere near as great as it once was
but we all know if ny was to find its way back, the south would be irrelevant again

i dont really fukk with radio
and ya might have that
but if u lookin for quality music u aint lookin for a southern artist
and i'll take a 2013 b-list ny rapper over what ya offering any day of the week

with that said
all them ny rappers who try to sound southern can eat a dikk
ya get no love from me

Everybody wants ny to get their shyt together because when ny has their shyt together, they're unfukkwithable
Everybody wants great music again
Everybody is tired of this cornball southern shyt
Even southern artists miss and want the ny sound back

Nah, we don't like wack ass artists in this era. There is a reason why Kendrick is killing the game and still be on the cover of GQ, while the c00n rappers like 2 Chainz is struggling to get a hit. Regionalism is dead and that old, gritty sound isn't coming back due to gentrification.
