theres a reason why people always talk about bringin ny back
we all know its nowhere near as great as it once was
but we all know if ny was to find its way back, the south would be irrelevant again

i dont really fukk with radio
and ya might have that
but if u lookin for quality music u aint lookin for a southern artist
and i'll take a 2013 b-list ny rapper over what ya offering any day of the week

with that said
all them ny rappers who try to sound southern can eat a dikk
ya get no love from me
you mad? there are plenty of southern lyrical hip hop artists, rappers get paid more because they focus on catchy lyrics unlike the hip hop artist who focus on positive poetic lyrics. your getting your hopes up high for lame ass ny, they aint never coming up again unless they cop a southern style and you knowit. yall ny nikkas green as fukk, how the fukk you get mad at southern nikkas because we get more radio play and hits now, our shyt is just too trill.

Nah, we don't like wack ass artists in this era. There is a reason why Kendrick is killing the game and still be on the cover of GQ, while the c00n rappers like 2 Chainz is struggling to get a hit. Regionalism is dead and that old, gritty sound isn't coming back due to gentrification.

I agree somewhat
I don't see anything special in Kendrick tho
I've said it before about gentrification/Giuliani
NYC ain't the same as it was 20 years ago
The music reflected the times

I'm not sure where u from
But NYC is still hood
It's just not as spread out
And I'm not sure if it's because I'm older now but I don't see the gang scene as prevelant
I don't think it's impossible for that sound to come back but it will be hard
Especially with the younger generation being a bunch of followers

As someone who loves that old sound, it was wonderful for me when joell Ortiz first came out with the brick. For a few years every verse was fire. He brought back that feel for me for a couple of years. He don't spit the same no more but I appreciate what he gave me for that time.

Once the younger generation been exposed to the likes of Obama and Kanye, pardon the cliche shyt, they know they are not limited to be street dwellers anymore. The kids want to have their image that reflects their generation.

Joell Ortiz is roughly 35 and he came out of that old NYC. Of course he can rap like that.

Like jay said 'ya respect the 1 who got shot, I respect the shooter'
And like the other dude said. Before it was about hustling the product and now it's about being fiends to the product.

Hip Hop protested the drug dealer/ seller back in the day. From KRS to Public Enemy to X-Clan, they protested against it caused they actually cared about their community. Even many of the old heads get confused about that shyt and selectively forget that shyt.

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Dips need to reuinte with Rsonist on the boards.

Fab can stay off these trap beats and give us Soul Tape 3 with Losos Way 2 to legitimately release.

Ruff Ryders can release another compilation with PKiller Tracks, Dj Shok and a stripped down Swizz who only incorporates 808's and oriental strings.

but the city itself needs inspiration.

Somebody like Nas and Jay Z are gonna have to bring something gritty and make an album for the streets to spear head the movement.

I know its not realistic to bring back that coke/mafioso shiit - but the product that was being released with such themes... it was like a scarface flick that
transmorphed its way into the recording studio.

That's never gonna cum back. Ever.

Trust me. Listen to them 80s albums that talked down against the drug dealer and you see my point. Hip Hop was meant to overcome negativity from the streets. Not to engage in it. That is what Hip Hop is about.

I see ur point
I'm not debating against it
That music is before my time
And lookin out my window in the early 90s, drugs and violence is all I saw
I guess I related to the 90s sound

This is how I see it. I'm a die-hard Bulls fan but I still recognize that it's good for the NBA when the Knicks are a title contender.

It's the same way with music, New York regaining its glory or even producing quality artists/music is good for hiphop/rap.

Naw, the reason people always say shyt about bringing ny back is cause they miss a certain type of music. its not cause it was ever better than southern music. yall just value all that technical ass shyt and think thats all rapping is about. people dont fukk with that mindstate anymore except hipsters and cacs and a few dusty nikkas living in the 90's still. the reason future is hot and joey badass isnt is cause that nikka thinks that its enough to rap your ass off according to the eminem/kool g/big l rulebook of rapping. nobody trying to hear that shyt anymore. rappers like future have all the other qualities that people wanna hear. somebody said this already but ny didnt fall off just cause its no good rappers there, yall fell off because your music is outdated and yall cant innovate. ya shyt gone stale so now all these nikkas do is bite
