The south making it a thing to let everyone know they don’t listen to jay Z is forced and corny

And I honestly don’t even under why it’s a thing

There’s plenty of rappers that get more love in some regions and less in another

You don’t see nikkas in Virginia talking about “we don’t jam e40 out here “
Yet the south always has to let it be known thst they don’t listen to jay z. Almost like they take pride In it

And further more jay z does have fans down south so I really don’t get it

Well, Gipp's whole argument against Jay Z disqualifies his whole premise. He vehemently says Jay Z wasn't getting play like that based on the fact that the T.I.'s and Jeezy's give Jay Z props and cite him as influences. T.I. thinks highly of Jay as does Jeezy. You'd even see DF members like Big Boi give Jay props.

Sure, there was point in like '96-'97 where Jay Z wasn't really a big deal here, but of course it changed with "Money Ain't A Thang". That's pretty much the history.

I don't think his issue is with Jay Z, but with how the industry plays him up in his eyes. I mean, even in Atlanta, it kind of looks funny when you have a native like Jermaine Dupri have a huge single with Jay Z, but you got Dungeon Family right there in the city and it was like really late in the game before JD collaborated with any of them. Not saying, he was obligated to doing songs with them, but it is what it is. Then there's the fact that ATL artists were bigging up Jay when there's direct influences in the city on their styles. Again, T.I. nor Jeezy or any ATL artist is obligated to cite any of them as influences, but it is what it is. To their credit, they always give credit to Outkast and T.I. shouted out Goodie Mob's Soul Food on "Top Back".

I lived in Georgia for a long time and I can definitely say it's a big thing. Like I said a few times, the south has an inferiority complex towards the Northeast and since Jay-Z is the face of New York rap they hate on him as their way of drawing their line in the sand.

This isn't true because even on Gipp's rant against how Jay isn't GOAT, he talked about how big DMX and 50 Cent were down here and how Jay was never on their level.

Although it's stupid, many down here held onto this loyalty to Pac. Because of it, a lot of people weren't open to the music of artists that Pac Dissed. Me and a friend discussed how people here were sleeping on Nas because of the Pac beef and how people looked at him crazy for being a Nas fan. I didn't necessarily catch that because I was younger. I just remembered how heavy "If I Ruled The World" was here and in 1999, I even remember songs like "Kissing" and "You Won't See Me Tonight" in addition to his features and the singles being played and even how they previewed the I Am album the week it dropped. But I still remember the Jay Z vs Nas beef dividing the city so much so that one of the big stations would not play Nas music while the other one did because those stations were rivals.

Except he's not making an indictment on NYC as a whole, but on how The South wasn't really bumping Jay Z like that. One artist.

I don't think any Southerner would expect someone on the East to even be familiar with Tela's third album or even Tela period.

It's not really anything against the North East/NYC since he clearly gave 50cent and DMX their props. It's more that he/they hate the Jigga slurping going on; and if people were being honest, numerous NYC/North Eastern rappers, probably hold the same opinion of the Jayz media bias.

This is fair, but 50 and DMX also had elements about them that transcended regions - DMX reminded people of Pac because of the image and the hunge rin his music, and 50 had a southern twang in his voice that set him apart and helped him become top dog in the year where NY really lost ground to the south
