African despots have a way of turning ordinary people into heroes . Last I read Museveni changed the constitution to allow him to get around term limits. A lot of them have no vision for growth though they are fascinated by East Asian autocratic leaders who managed to develop their economies. The irony is that in the 90s Museveni, Kagame, Zenawi and the Eritrean dude were seen by the West as a new breed of leader sweeping aside the old strongman model of Mobutu types and yet here we are and these dudes are going to be doing 20+ years like nothing ever changed.

once they taste power it's a rap

The power they wield is immense and without a fully ratified constitution that is wholly built for the future there is not much of an incentive to relinquish that power or even a mechanism to take it away.
