As in everything, people feel the need to "kill the father". Bron stans need that validation, because despite being the best player on the court the majority of those who saw both play will pick MJ over Bron. So since Bron can't elevate much more (and can't ever be 6-0 in the Finals anymore), you have to diminish MJ. Also in general people want to say that their era is better than others, so you have to diminish MJ's era if your era is this current one.

It's kind of similar with people who hate on other countries to feel good about their own one imo.
