You already know Rubin threw Harden an under table bag. There’s no question about it. No player “just gives up 15 milly” for sake of the team. Harden has real relationships with these guys...damn near his inner circle. They def hooked him up...

Players and teams do it all the time under the pretenses of teams taking care of them during the next deal especially since the cap is about to jump. Milwaukee just did it with Portis and more than likely doing it with Pat Connaughton as well.

The good thing is that Harden has already made plenty of money in his career. But I still think financially this is a bad move. Houston offers you a 2 yr 100 million extension that you turn down. Now you opt out of 47 million taking a 15 million paycut. He must think he's gonna ball out and opt out after the first year.
Or maybe... Just maybe, he wants to win so he's giving up some money so they could add players they wouldn't have been able to if he opted in.

But Rubin doesn't have any ties to the Sixers anymore. Or does he?
