Man i love them Swishahouse nikkas, they really put me on to South shyt...
I moved to Houston from Philly in 2002 and I had a one track mind when it came to hiphop. I like Jay, X, Nas you know all the east coast shyt.
Soon as i get to the H, the radio is playing all local artists and that shyt threw me off. First off I never heard a screwed up song and the slang was foreign to me. I aint like it at first, but it grew on me.
Flip, Keke, Slim Thug and ESG, they was superstars already before the explosion in 05.
Left Houston in 05 and never been back. Heard shyt been different post Katrina.
I relate to this post a lot breh
Moved to TX from Cali in 05, right after HS, and was literally introduced to the scene (SUC, SPC, Swishahouse, Wreckshop etc) at the peak of the commercial Texas explosion (Cham, Mike, Slim, Paul)
I got thrown into everything. Drank when it was still 350 a pint. The lingo. Texas Relays. Lol. Aww mane good times. I was so "Cali this Cali that" that I was stubborn at first and I really hated the shyt lol but over time and to this day I love it. Especially shyt like the old G Maab, Keke, Pokey and Screw Tapes overall
The shyt just Really opened up my eyes to Southern Rap in general. And You right about them all being legit city superstars known thru out the state without any major push or backing. TX boys been getting bread independently....just like the Bay.

Hold this rep for the memories my nucca
