North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
it makes sense. kids in china are doing calculus by like grade 5. meanwhile in america, new math was developed to make math sexier...cause kids cant learn math from underpaid and overworked teachers

The standards in this country are low. Most grade/high schools teach to memorize content to take a test.

And it also speaks to how the top countries that are bad at math, not only have a majority of the wealth, but a huge gap in wealth inequality.

Damn what made you drop out if you don’t mind me asking
Too close of proximity of my school and my house. I can walk 7 mins at be at my school. No incentive to go when at any moment of the day I can run into people from my neighborhood and hang out. Just got caught up, I wasn't a bad kid. But my school was on the list for one of the highest truancy rates next to Taft High school back in the day. No one went to school honestly.

I can be in class and see my apartment window from the classroom and just point like,, we out?

I believe it. Most people I meet are trash at math. I see that dumb ass meme for years saying 'It's 20XX and I still haven't used Pythagoras theorem.' And people will cosign that stupid shyt. I always comment on there I use pythagorean theorem damn near every day.

People in this country are fukking stupid, lazy, and obstinate. Math is literally as simple as following directions it's actually easier than learning a language.

You think so? People do not even know when to use a semi colon instead of a comma.

That's why math is easier to learn than english; in math there aren't any nearly useless symbols like a semicolon in english.(see what I did there) Nearly every instance where you can use a semicolon you can(or are) supposed to use a comma and a conjunction or you can just start a new sentence. The few college classes I did take my english professor would red check your paper if you used semicolons. shyt is stupid as fukk. English is actually one of the hardest languages to learn because of stupid shyt like semicolons.

Math is universal with a strict set of rules. Once you learn those rules, you realize they apply damn near universally across the board... at least until you start dealing with abstracts then shyt can get a little wild. Unless you are an engineer or a physicist you aren't going to need abstracts in the real world though.

Map was done poorly IMO.

I believe him, a few years ago I was reading about how immigrant kids usually fare better in math than the humanities and find it easier to connect with the students from the society they migrated to through math precisely because it doesn't take a lot of cultural/social capital to have a grasp of mathematics, it doesn't make them feel alienated or excluded. Math is "universal".

Ehh I've made it quite far in life without the need for anything more than some arithmetic/fractions/algebra. Why bother focusing on extra math that'll rarely affect my day-to-day :yeshrug:

Feel the same about foreign parents. My dad's jamaican. Took an investments course in college and worked in water commission in ja before coming here.

He got a black board from a construction job he was working. Used it to teach me to read and write and math since I wasn't going to pre-k.

Brings back memories of how he was helping me do my homework till 1am, writing portions of my essays when I was little. I was a little slow before it clicked as I got older and more independent.

I swear to god they was giving us too much work in the 90s.
