Thank Rick Rubin for that. Run DMC are legendary because they are pioneers. Not because they were super talented like Wu-Tang.
Comparing Run to Prodigy is like putting George Mikan up against David Robinson
Are you giving Rick Rubin the credit for Run-D.M.C.'s success?
I'm not comparing Run to Prodigy at all and I never did. We both know Prodigy was the better lyricist and songwriter. It's a pointless discussion to have because they came from two wildly different eras of hip hop. By the time Mobb Deep came out, the standards for lyricism and songwriting in rap music were much higher than they were in Run's era, when most rappers were still doing the simple "yes yes y'all" style before guys like Rakim and KRS-One arrived.
What I'm saying is if you compare Run in his prime to these clowns like Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug, he would smoke them. Him and DMC had actual talent. They knew how to rock a crowd and they knew how to make records. Diminishing their accomplishments because they didn't have multisyllabic rhyme schemes and complex writing styles in their songs is disrespectful to them and the legacy they left behind.
