I like some westcoast shyt..I've already namedropped pharcyde and souls of mischief. I like them because they don't sound like typical westcoast groups. they have a global sound. soul on ice was my shyt too. doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of westcoast artists of that time were on that G-Funk shyt, tryna get paid because it was popular at the time.

A decade ago, it was easily the East Coast. Cats were stuck in that try'na sound like Premo and Pete Rock shyt. I think stagnant production has hurt a lot of cats that used to be greats, especially dudes like LOX. All their joints sound stale as fukk now.

I think the "trap" shyt has really killed the quality of South music. I miss that old Dungeon Family innovation. Dudes used to really go in. Suave House and Rap-a-Lot used to have producers who were creating whole new sounds. Now everybody's stuck on that one sound, shyt's wack.

Co sign on the LOX. Their 2 albums have production and IMO, they were even worse than Nas's beats. At least I can listen to IWW and not fall asleep.

Right now you could say the south due to trap beats taking over since around 05. 15 or so years ago that wouldn't be the case, since everyone was trying to diversify at that point.
