TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State Seminoles receiver Greg Dent was arraigned on second-degree sexual assault charges Monday, a felony count that likely means an indefinite suspension for the senior-to-be and a potential jail term of up to 15 years.

Dent was arrested Sunday night on a single count of sexual assault on a victim over the age of 12.


In Monday's hearing, Leon County Court judge Robert R. Wheeler assigned a $15,000 bond on the condition Dent would have no contact with the alleged victim, who is a longtime friend, according to the police report.

Dent was one of Florida State's top receivers this spring and was expected to compete for a starting job.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher released a statement that read: "We are aware of the situation with Greg Dent. He's suspended indefinitely from all team activities as we let the legal process run its course."

University policy requires any student-athlete facing felony charges be suspended.

"It's a very serious offense," said Dent's attorney, Tim Jansen. "It's an offense that could send him to prison if he's convicted. It's certainly an offense that's going to get him suspended."

According to the police report, the alleged victim intended to spend the night at Dent's off-campus apartment Saturday. The alleged victim awoke to find Dent kissing her and asked him to stop. After several additional attempts, Dent left the room. Within a few moments, Dent allegedly returned to the room naked and became "very aggressive in touching the victim," forcibly removing her clothes, the police said.

According to the report, Dent was able to partially penetrate the alleged victim before she was able to fight him off by punching and elbowing him.

Dent's statements were redacted from the report released to the public, and Jansen said he was still unsure whether those statements were recorded by police.

"All we have is a statement that's attributed to him," Jansen said. "A lot of times, the officers will give their interpretation of what he said in the report and sometimes their statements will be different."

Dent's roommate and girlfriend were both in court Monday.

Dent has 40 career receptions for 603 yards and four touchdowns, but his role was expected to increase dramatically in 2013.

"Dent is playing exceptional," Fisher said at the end of FSU's spring practice. "Dent and(Rashad) Greene are by far playing the best (of our receivers)."
