The US is going after Hezbollah's long under-appreciated presence in Latin America

Most Lebanese people at least in Brazil are super Brazilian. I really don’t see hezbollah looking to that population as a source of strength in the region. If they’re Muslim in background the majority are either non practicing or converted Christians

There are a million things to worry about in South America that you don’t need to even think about it North America. Fundamentalist Islam is not one of them

If it’s like that in the rest of the region, and I honestly have no idea, it’s obvious hezbollah would be using weak governments and corruption to get a foothold on the US’ doorstep

I was thinking that but I honestly don't know the whole region and diaspora dynamics that well. All the people I met when living in Brazil and the famous Lebanese Brazilians don't seem that 'ethnic'. They've been there so long even their food (like kibbe) is pretty much considered 'Brazilian' now.

Honestly the remnants of fascist sympathies in part of the population of German and to a lesser extent Japanese descent would seem more of a problem than Hezbollah and even that problem is more remote each generation.

True that was mostly a 1960s and 70s thing. Not sure who is driving the far right now though I hear there is a resurgence since Dilma Rousseff's impeachment and removal. Fascism might not run across ethnic lines for non-Blacks but I would be surprised if many Blacks/Pardos were down with the Brazilian far right. The Evangelical religious right is pretty universal across color and ethnicity though.

the far right is driven by koch bros and james dobson-types lol. it's not unfair to call brazil's strong rightward swing a coup, because it is one. the irony of course is that as bad as the government is in brazil, it miiiight be better than the US' in a lot of key areas. never thought i'd write or think that

i dont know any black people who are coxinha, not that all of these guys are fascists by a long shot, of course. and im sure there are some conservative black brazilians, i just dont know any. but you're right, it would be largely religious reasons at the forefront of black conservatism

Healthcare policies sure but apart from that perhaps you need to enlighten us on what exactly Temers government does better in key areas ?

Crazy read. I’m gonna finish the second part later but Iran should never have gotten that nuke deal. If they manage to keep gaining in South America there’s a legit threat of a destabilized continent. All they have to do is cause chaos and force mass migration into the US.
