Off-contract Moto G might be coming to Verizon for $100

Motorola's Moto G smartphone might soon be available to Verizon customers for as low as $100 — without a contract. Google+ user Josue Joseph, who claims to work at Best Buy Mobile, posted a picture of the Android phone in Verizon retail packaging. Joseph later commenting that it "looks like it's going for $100."

The Verizon-branded packaging suggests the phone will be sold without an annual contract, but Josue claims users will still need to choose one of Verizon's data plans, as the phone "will not work with anything else." Those plans, the packaging implies, will include unlimited talk and text options.

The Moto G currently retails for $179 in the US and, even at that price, had a lot to recommend it against its peers. There's no word yet on a street date for the $100 Verizon version, but if the leaked information turns out to be accurate, it would further solidify the Moto G's position as one of the very best budget smartphones available.

Pretty had to beat it at $100 :patrice:

Too bad that its only for the Verizon version tho...a T-Mobile/Sprint version for $100 out of contract would be huge for me.

Too bad it still has Android on it...:heh:

And newsflash TS there are hundreds of cheap android phones out there. This is not a big deal to anyone. So despite you and the other haters wishes, Windows Phone will still do well in the upcoming year. Prepare to take another L again idiot, although given your recent streak you should probably be used to it by now...

:patrice: Yeah, dog. I currently have a Motorola phone that came out the 2nd-half of 2012 (Motorola Photon Q). Even though the Moto G definitely has a better SoC (especially the CPU & GPU), bigger & higher resolution screen than my current phone, my current phone still has notable hardware features over the Moto G (separate micro-hdmi out port, MicroSD Card slot, LTE, better camera, NFC, & etc). So, i'm gonna have to pass over the Moto G.

Here's an update:
UPDATE: Some new images have surfaced that reveal more details on the Verizon Moto G's pricing and availability. First up, the folks at Android Police have shared a photo that shows the unit on the shelf at a Best Buy, complete with a price tag of $99.99. It's worth noting that, because Verizon will be selling the Moto G with its prepaid service, that's its no contract price.

The second image comes to us from Droid-Life. It mentions that the Verizon-flavored Moto G has a "hard street date" of Jan. 9, meaning that the device may be just a little over a week away from launch. While unconfirmed for now, that'd certainly fit within the Q1 2014 launch window that Verizon has given for its Moto G variant.
