Over the last 30 years the rise of big corporates and now Amazon is killing a lot of the former go-to businesses for immigrants. Remember all those Indian/Pakistani owned motels or Indian/African cab drivers? Now it's all Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, and Uber. 7-Eleven is trying to "professionalize" the same way hotels did, but destroying everyone but the top performers and making them run on a treadmill just to make any money.
