So, in your opinion, why does America have a right to decide the fate of the people of Cuba? Is this a "might makes right" argument?

There are other dictatorships both in and out of our hemisphere. Would this same logic apply to El Salvador or Nicaragua?.
We dont have the right.
We have the strength.

If your position is 'it isnt right or fair', i dont think anyone disagrees.
Carney laid it out clearly in a speech a couple months byke... the rules are not enforced evenly and the powerful will bend them as they see fit.

So, why should we do this if you acknowledge we dont have the right? Does decency matter or is it just raw power politics?

What about the soft power and moral authority that we would lose in a move like this? What about the unintended consequences that neither of us can even contemplate at the moment?

... It would be great if geopolitics were that simple:wow:
It can be that simple, but smart dumb asses make nasty decisions for the sake of their own nastiness.

Cuba is a small nation that is doing nothing to anyone and the US is mad that it does not want to be a de facto colony.

It’s pathetic and the sanctions we’ve put that nation under is war and are war crimes. Like I said earlier, grow up.

It sounds more like you have no morals than anything. It's sounds like youre saying we should do this just because we can, while pretending to care about the welfare of the Cuban people.

Im not naive, I know geopolitics is a dirty and complicated game, but your logic here is spotty at best and reprehensible at worst.

I dont think morality is the right lens to view nations states through. They arent people.:manny: They are amoral, IMO.
A moral/ethical nation state doesnt exist.
You are setting yourself up for disappointment IMO.

This is revisionist... again painting Cuba as completely innocent.

I dont disagree with you overarching point though. I think we should laissez faire the whole show... let Iran(and anyone else) have nukes, let Russia place nukes in Cuba if they want... all of it.
Im diametrically opposed to world policing.

... I accept reality though.

Without US sanctions, poor people in Cuba would have better material conditions than poor people in USA...
Believing this is on the table (especially with this admin) is a rejection of reality IMO.
I look forward to seeing which of our outlooks aligns most with the real world though...i could definitely be wrong:ehh:

Think about what you are mad about

Them hosting USSR missles from 60+ years ago. The Soviet Union no longer exists.

Cuba turned to the Soviet’s because the US were upset over land reforms.

Like I said before, be an adult.
