This is from Game 4 of the 96 Finals

Dr. J hating

I'm not on this GS needs any apology shyt, but at least the players here acted like the Bulls could at least compete with them. Scottie just saying GS would get swept like we forgot Utah took them to 6 twice (and as we saw very nearly went to 7 games both years). It's at least a little more respectful to say they'd compete.

But yeah nobody from any previous era will think that the new era teams would beat them. Just how it is.

Why don't people discredit the past eras like you coli dudes do the 90's? Y'all realize 6-7 expansion teams were added the years before the lakers won 33 straight games and went 69-13 right? We never hear the weak expansion excuse for them
The way I've seen expansion discussed (at least as it related to baseball) was that as the country's population grew, more teams were added to reflect the talent pool.

In 1920 the country had 100 million people (blacks being barred from baseball being a topic for another day) and the league had 16 teams.
Today the country has 318 million people and 30 teams.

In the NBA, maybe it's more of a money thing but the league also had to reflect the population of the country, too.

Also, it's a little bit unfair to say that adding teams ruins the quality of play.
Sure, some guys on the fringes were in the league who might otherwise been overseas or in another league. But you can't just say "We added 6 teams...these guys are scrubs who don't belong in the NBA".

There are A LOT of basketball players in the country and overseas. And a lot of the guys who wound up on these expansion teams weren't already in the league NOT BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH...(necessarily) but likely because there just wasn't enough spots.

For the sake of the argument, let's look at it like the Dream Team...just for the hell of it. The Dream Team had 12 players on it. If you weren't on the Dream Team, does that mean you suck? Does that mean you don't belong on the team? If you expanded the Dream Team roster from 12 to 16....does that really dilute the quality of the team? Of course not. Maybe the 16th guy isn't as good as Magic Johnson, but so what?

So that's how I look at expansion. The league added more teams to take advantage of growing markets and to reflect the pool of talent/population available. And yeah, some of those guys weren't superstars. But most of them were damn good players by any measure.
But that's just me.

Comparison is one thing.
I don't recall the hate back in 96.

Maybe it is a product of social media

:ehh:

It's a product of the culture and social media. Most people are haters these days or just negative.

That said, people here and on tv were comparing curry to Jordan only a few months ago.

I can understand the backlash cause reality is setting in.

Enough of this " ____ deserves an apology" talk. I guarantee they don't care and just use it as motivation.
