If I remember correctly.. there was a supermarket/restaurant that wouldn’t throw their food away and instead gave it to the homeless/those in financial dire straits. However, they got sued I think over some health and safety bullshyt.

Long story short, it’s not worth the legal liability to give the excess food to those less fortunate.

My job involves catered lunches some days, and I spoke to one of the caterers once. She said they used to give the food to the homeless, but had to stop in case someone got sick, and sued them.

But there is the food donation liability act, which protects people from this. I don’t know if it extends to businesses.

We used to get day old pastries and bread from the grocery store that was going to get thrown out and feed it to our hogs. I would keep a couple honey buns for myself tho.

Why not double wrap in a plastic bag and leave in the alley on some wink wink nod nod understanding? Always wondered this.

Imagine all the strays and vermin you just invited into your shop before any humans would get to it
