Every Asian spot in my hood sells HELLA fried chicken wings.

And everyone I deal with, when they go there they get the wings and add other sides like fried rice lo mein or egg rolls.

We not going there for the egg rolls.

Also. We have a higher end soul food spot downtown. Black people regard it highly and I've been there on multiple milestone birthday parties.

There's a church around the way who sells soul food plates everyday and it's always jumpin.

Where I'm at, we revere soul food.

No its not. Nobody who asks for soul food is expecting a bucket of crayfish, shrimp, corn, and sausage. nikkahs outside of NO will look at you crazy. :russ:
Yes, it is. If somebody asks for "soul food", they could get anything from bbq from different states, ie, totally different styles of bbq to "rice," which could be any one of our several varieties of rice; smothered chicken is different regionally, as are greens, etc.

Umbrella. Many states/ regions.

Hence why Louisiana IZ King of NEGRO CUISINE
Walk with me, cousin, 'cause they actin' like these minor regional distinctions separate us and they ain't no better than au fait.
We're severely under-capitalized. That doesn't mean our food isn't on the global stage. Popeyes is everywhere. Korean fried chicken, an FBA derivative, is everywhere. I'm sure I can find more.
Al Copeland, a white man, is the founder of Popeyes. Lemme throw the gauntlet down when I say Popeyes don't represent FBADOS soul food - matter of fact, it's Cajun-Creole if you tryna split hairs. Cajun food ain't soul food, soul food is. Know why?

:camby: :camby: :camby:
We ain't talkin' 'bout what Koreans do, respectfully, this FBADOS business.

We 'bout to gloss over Maryland seafood boil and Lowland seafood boil like it's not under the soul food umbrella?
'Cause what you described in the bolded is a seafood boil. Coastal regions excluded from the soul food conversation 'cause they use regionally specific ingredients?

The problem you're running into is familiarity.

Truthfully, I don't really like Jamaican food from most restaurants because I know what it should taste like.

But I can agree with creole/cajun being soul food

Stacking soul food up against entire races like Asians is also wild af :heh:

It most certainly is….. Cats Claiming a whole continent of food with 100s of different cultures as one genre of cuisine but don’t want to label creole food as soul food. Doesn’t make sense

Idk if I can co-sign Caribbean food being considered “soul food” that’s wild to me as a Miami yard man.

Whoa Cajun is White backyard food. The only thing good Cajun is Boudin. Blackening is good too but is shared with Creoles. It's how we BBQ in the swamp.

I hate how Cajun gentrified our Food.

Cajuns can't cook. That's why the joke is if you burn something you say it's Cajun lmao

:mjlol: I'm literally growing black eyed peas, collards, and mustards.

I cook everything: Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Spanish, Dominican, Italian, French, etc, bc my man is deathly allergic to onions, but I also try to re-invent my native cuisine, soul food. I come from a long lineage of chefs and married into a family that had owned a soul food restaurant back in the day.

How do you get 'bored' of your own food? I never heard nobody of no other ethnicity say that weird shyt. I'm starting to think we have another issue...

Extremely narrow minded, but you entitled to your opinion.

We weren’t put here to be the same or like same shyt. That’s like me saying because you Black you should like fried chicken and watermelon.

I prefer eating steaks and pretty much anything that comes from the ocean, it doesn’t make me any more or less weird than you for your weird azz hot take here.
