By eliminating the root cause of crimes in most communities i.e poverty, lack of education and career prospect and mental health.
ultimately you still need police but quality ones i.e quality > quantity

I am pretty sure community outreach programs have tried that for decades now, and it's not going so well.

You most definitely do need police and people need to be afraid of going to jail instead of seeing it as a rite of passage or a badge of honor.

Did the OP not see what happened in Baltimore after Freddie Gray was murdered by the cops? BPD basically said, "we can't murder with impunity, then we won't do the rest of our jobs". Then crime went up significantly in Baltimore.

Police do fukk shyt, but there's no doubt that their very presence is a deterrent to most crimes.
OP

Watch the news tonight, and read about how the city of Seattle govt. is reacting a year after reducing the police budget.

Is it the police themselves that potential criminals are scared of or the criminal justice system:stopitslime:Police make arrest at best but they are not the ones who will find uyou guilty of a crime then send
your ass to jail which is the real deterrent. the threat of prison and criminal record is the deterrent here, not police

This is babble. Fed. state and local govt agencies, and private sector organizations have been trying to MININIZE, PREVENT and ADDRESS the exact same things you've listed, for decades.

We've seen multiple people who fix their faces to say "eliminate" or act as if it's EITHER/OR. Either have law enforcement or tackle social problems.

Those people are talking out of his asses, and copping never-ending pleas.

No I'm talking about real investment by the gov't not some weak ass community outreach programme. I'm tlaking reparations, funding schools/education, providing real economic opprtunities etc

I bet if you halved the police force/budget and use that money towards improving the mental health and socio economic situations of the entire community, crime rate will go down in that community, not up

Some people cannot be helped or rehabilitated. Must be removed from society to protect others.

And more practically, govt and nonprofits do not have unlimited resources to try to turn these people around. Money could be put to better use providing resources for productive members of society.

On cue, you cop pleas,

Name your state. I will list the govt. agencies and the non profits.

I'm talking real solutions here, not half measures and weak attempts. And some of the solution like reparations and investing billions of
cac tax payers money into world class programmes, schools etc will never happen.

so until the federal and state gov't actually go
all in and seek to fully address the issue, it will just be the same weak and pathetic attempt as trying to address climate change.

It's not getting caught criminals or potential criminals are afraid of, it's going to jail and getting convicted. So perhaps your argument will make more sense if it focuses on detectives who solve crimes
and judges who prosecute. Police themselves don't deter crimes very well at all.

How are the criminals supposed to get to the police station to get processed for a trial?

Once you start copping pleas, you will never stop. That's the only road that path leads to.
