Lyfe was huge in the Black community tho. Every nikka I know had his first album. Lyfe had the 45 and under crowd in the ghetto. He has 1 classic album under his belt. The Weeknd appeals to more cacs but if he can ever have the following Lyfe had in the hood then he's done something. Appealing to cacs is easier imo. Just make abstract music and weirdo's will be drawn to it.

Maxwell is a perfect example. Dude never over exposes himself and is still somewhat of a mystery and he's been out since I was in elementary school. Dude is the male version of Sade'. Maxwell is a great example, I'll rep you if I could for this post. Maxwell makes great R&B music and never tried to be a star. I don't recall seeing him trying to be an actor or anything. Dude drops his albums and disappears until it's time to drop another 1. And he hasn't fell off yet after all these years.

The irony of this post is that Maxwell was considered a weird ass singer too when he first dropped, so weird, Urban Hang Suite was shelved for 2 years at a time when everyone and their mother could drop an album.

Mainstream R&B would be the best shyt going if nikkas didn't cater to cacs and stayed true to the soul.
