Hipsters kill me with this shyt about his music falling off. What they really hate is the fact that he's popular (and that they don't get acknowledged for "finding him"). I don't know, but I enjoy music for what it is, that is the actual music and artistry. Not to be some kind of "middle man" between artist and listener.

Same cats act like everything he did before 2013 was great. Some of his songs then were boring to me.

There's a reason why he's getting a ton of fame right now, dude has had some great releases and features the last year.
I've seen this happen so many times over the years all you can do is sit back and laugh. It's basically the cycle of any artist.
This is exactly why i don't take white girls opinions on Rnb seriously.:lolbron:

Weekend better than D'angelo, Miguel, Bj Chicago Kid, Bilal? hell no.

He's better than Miguel and BJ. BJs last tape wasn't that good and reading the reviews neither was Miguels.

Lol at him being better than an artist who produces writes and singes better than him.

His never had a project as good as Kaliedescope.

And Bj is the heir to Bilal, much more talented soulful singer.

This is a song our kids will play in 20 years the type of songs that was being made in the 60-80s that our parents used to fawn about, and he produced and wrote it.

Weekend doesn't have the same level of classics, period.

The Weeknd makes better music and is a more interesting artist. The trilogy proved that. Miguel makes that bland and safe boring shyt.

As far as Weeknds newfound commercial success, i salute him but I can't say I'm listening to his music anymore. The new songs are good but its music for teenage girls. PartyNextDoor is the current king of the type of music The Weeknd used to make. Dont get the PND hate at all. PND 1 and 2 are the best r&b projects in recent years.

Like how the fukk can you hate on this

He's slowly but surely falling off. I say this as a supporter since 2011. Got put on by my homie in February that year, and when HOB dropped I got It off tumblr and after the other two tapes dropped I was in awe. Maybe because that's where I was in my life, on drugs, fukking girls, running around the city partying and shyt.

But I look now, and His music doesn't have the depth it once did. It doesn't mean it's not good, because it is. The Hills is an amazing track, just like KOTF and Often were, but there's a noticeable difference in it. Lazy lyrics. Carried by production in a way. It doesn't sound raw or unpolished. Not as haunting or unpredictable.

He's still better than most artists. But I think for his type of music, he'd have been better off taking some breaks. So that the quality doesn't get diluted. No lie, when it came down to it, I never thought I would see him make songs like Drinks on Us or Earned It. I literally could never picture it. He had that darkness about him and his music and it seemed authentic.

He's still making the highest quality mainstream music possible. But I just preferred his shyt a little darker. But everybody gotta get paid, so :eat:

I appreciate HOB/THURS/EOS and those are all personal classics to me.

Still about 4 galaxies ahead of PND though, even this version of him :mjlol:

I personally don't think that song is good at all. That whole song sounds like a generic Weeknd rip off and he's not even doing it anywhere as good as him.

Like I could see sharkin Weeknds whole style...but to do that and still not do it as good or better :camby:

Have you not heard The Hills??? How is that teenage girl music?? The whole song is drug related.

Any Weeknd hate or attempts to pan his music are barely worth responding to......'Girls In The 90's' is m y favorite he's dropped this year, but I have loved eveyrthing.....Even 'Pulling Up' (without Meek) is dope, in spite of being slightly dulled down for Meek's generic ass to spit over. 'In The Night' & 'I Can't Feel My Face' are two other songs of the summer...

There's a little truth to what ModernFonzie is saying, in that there are sometimes lazy lyrics, or just ones that feel out of place on tracks like 'King of The Fall', and on similar tracks, he has a few different styles, and that one can become a little overdone. I feel like those are an attempt to placate the critics who say he went soft.....but 'Earned It' feels like a real Weeknd song, slightly glossier then his ealry stuff, but right there in that vein. 'In The 90's', 'I Can't Feel My face' and 'In The Night' feel like a much more of an advance of his style.

I don't understand why fans do this...every artist at some point is gonna have to change their style a bit to maximize their success. Weeknd wasnt gonna make it on award shows and movie trailers by making songs like The Birds Pt. 2 his entire career. It's not like he's completely deviated from his original sound either, there's plenty of fukkery going on in The Hills, Often etc.

I can't even entertain the thought of PND being better than Abel. You nikkas wildin :comeon:
