The Weekend always looked like some hipster try too hard to be different kind of fakkit to me but when I heard "Earned It" I realized r&b wasn't dead

has the same exact kind of vibe/groove of an early 90s Contemporary r&b song by either Babyface/Toni Braxton/Tony Rich/Keith Sweat etc etc with a modern day twist.

the fact that good music like this can be a hit goes to show you maybe music is still alive. just like I always believed

Weeknd is Maxwell jr

Maxwell's second album "Embrya" is like the forefather to Jhene Aiko, Weeknd, Frank Ocean, etc

Ironically Embrya is Least successful album due to how ahead of its time it was for 1998

but good for Weeknd

His team and label have done a phenomenal job building him up. Dudes bigger then hes ever been thanks to some brilliant moves.

Love me harder and earned it may not be what his early hipster fans wanted to hear but it opened him up to a whole new audience.

The hills is like his og sound on steroids with more polish. He drops that song without love me harder and earned it and it would just be another single that failed to catch on. But nows its officially a hit and hes still being true to his core sound.

Only people hatin on him now are salty drake stans.
