Was there a real split between Abel and Illangelo or are they just working on separate projects right now?

After my first run through, this album is really underwhelming. The first four songs are great, then the album proceeds to fall off of a cliff. It bottoms out at "Wanderlust" (which might be the worst song Abel's ever released...I have NO idea what people see in it), then recovers slightly after the second half of "Kiss Land" to limp to the finish.

Some interesting ideas here, but the execution is mostly crap. Going to give this a second listen to see if my opinion of it improves.

Idk the ktt fanatics said they are not following each other on twitter and illangelo hasn't mentioned or supported kissland at all in addition to subliminal tweets about changing/going away. Something has to be going on. Weekend has been working on this project for almost a year and a half. I highly doubt other obligations are that important that they couldn't get into a studio together. Its a shame too because illangelo could have flipped the portishead sample so much better than dannyboy

'Wanderlust'...very dope song, thats a track for getting ready to go out with a few cute girls to the club, as they do their make up last minute, and you have one last drink before leaving, haunting guitars at the beginning give way to an edm/electronic inspired track, with an edge of desperation to it, 'Tears In The Rain', is just dope as fukk on one listen, this feels like an album you can play all the way through...this is exactly the album I wanted to hear.

Hmmm...better on the second listen. Those first four tracks are going to get played by me a LOT. Like, a LOT. fukking amazing stuff that gets better every time I listen to it. The material from the second half of Kiss Land to the end of the album proper also grew on me a bit. Nothing great, but it's good stuff.

That middle third though...stops the momentum of the album stone dead with dullness, mediocrity, and bad ideas. Still want Wanderlust cut from the album post-haste, and the Pharrell remix did nothing for me at all. Pleasing in the most superficial manner appropriate for musical tastes these days, but that's nothing to really aspire to.

Good, but nothing compared to his previous work.

And people...this still works:

Just a Kid From Chicago
Just finished listening to this and The Weeknd batting avg. is over .900 over the course of his 4 releases (factoring in songs that I don't personally care for from his catalog i.e. "Life of the Party", "Montreal") :wow:.

The only song that I don't really care for on Kiss Land is "Live For" because the collaboration sounds a bit forced at this point; however, these other songs :what:? Are dope. I love the fact that not one of his releases sound the same overall thematically, but at the same time, I still get the vibe that I'm listening to the nikka that I first heard on the song "Loft Music" two years ago.

"Pretty" is some of the realist shyt I've heard all year:
There are certain things that I've come to understand
Expectations can kill a simple man, simple man
I try to master the art of that far away love
Only so much can keep a woman warm
Now it's times like this that I say to myself
We've been living in a cold, cold world
But I at least have you to rely
Even if for a short time
As long as you know when I land you're mine

Like, are y'all brehs really hearing this shyt :wow:?

I can only imagine how this album would've hit me if it was released like the prior three with very few leaked songs - "Kiss Land" and "Love in the Sky" both got well over 200 plays already according to my ipod. I couldn't help myself and that's why I wanted more songs. That XO is a drug :to:. Still a great album that I have no reservations on going out and supporting with a purchase. I have to see when he's coming to the Chi as well.

:patrice: I dunno, other than the Professional I'm not feeling any of this shyt at all production-wise for some reason.

House of balloons I can play top to bottom n/h no skipping and every song is incredible.

This idolization of 'HOB' is kinda starting to become strange, I guess it's common phenomenon among the arts, what I heard in 'House Of Balloons' was a talented artists finding himself and his lane, and making some classic tracks...throughout the trilogy he's growing and defining his style and sound, this album is the culmination of those combined works, and he's playing with a new song concept on this, lyrics that on some songs are more direct, rap-esque, 'Kiss Land', and others that are stripped down, saying the very least, but getting the most meaning, contrast to a lot of his lyrics on 'HOB', I don't see how someone loved his debut tape, and doesn't follow the progression of his sound and style, and concept direction, 'Kissland' finds the Weeknd relaxed and accessible, while still maintaining the vision of his music he had from the beginning, less borderline misogynist lyrics, more critique and analysis, while still being honest and vulnerable, which are the qualities that attracted me to his music, initially.

I agree that at times the production isn't up to the standard of the Trilogy shyt, but in terms of songwriting, I feel like Abel is head and shoulders above where he was previously. This shyt is incredible.
