This idolization of 'HOB' is kinda starting to become strange, I guess it's common phenomenon among the arts, what I heard in 'House Of Balloons' was a talented artists finding himself and his lane, and making some classic tracks...throughout the trilogy he's growing and defining his style and sound, this album is the culmination of those combined works, and he's playing with a new song concept on this, lyrics that on some songs are more direct, rap-esque, 'Kiss Land', and others that are stripped down, saying the very least, but getting the most meaning, contrast to a lot of his lyrics on 'HOB', I don't see how someone loved his debut tape, and doesn't follow the progression of his sound and style, and concept direction, 'Kissland' finds the Weeknd relaxed and accessible, while still maintaining the vision of his music he had from the beginning, less borderline misogynist lyrics, more critique and analysis, while still being honest and vulnerable, which are the qualities that attracted me to his music, initially.

This.

Noticed how there is barely any drug referenced lyrics in this whole project.

Weeknd is a smart artist. He is growing. Breaking out of the box he put himself in in his early works. :obama:

He'll never top HOB. It's pretty clear. Yes he's grown as an artist but his growth blows cock, that's all. Hasn't written a great song since HOB, and the best stuff he's done since HOB were all features.

You're an idiot.

Weeknd stans deep down know it's true. How is one of your best songs a cover? :pachaha:

You could try to refute, add some examples, submit proof of great songwriting besides songs on HOB, I reckon it will be a challenge though.

:wtf: Hasn't written a great song since HOB? :wow: :dwillhuh:

Instant cop when this drops.

He's been supremely mediocre. Thursday was a rambling mess with some laughable lyrics. "Lonely Star" is a joke of a song.

Thing is since I loved HOB so much, I desperately wanted to like Thursday and EOS. They were, all, well simply put shyt. I put on KL and can barely make it through the first track, he's so fukking tedious nowadays. No coincidence the best song is the Kavinsky song.

his song writing has evolved, its pretty evident listening to this album.

Problem with you, and people like you is youre not a fan of the weeknd. You like house of balloons and thats it. I bet wicked games is your favorite song. Theirs no point in debating with someone who isnt a fan of the artist. And for the record, echoes of silence is better then house of balloons. House of ballons was his most mainstream sounding release, and easily his most shallow writing.

I'm actually a Loft Music and Coming Down type of guy, never liked Wicked Games, weakest song on HOB after The Knowing.

Fine, I guess I'm not a Weeknd fan and can admit that EOS is full of songs that are too long, that are monotonous and is by far his weakest vocal performance, mostly coming off shrill and annoying.

Believe me, I wanted to be a Weeknd fan, he showed so much promise, he's like the Len Bias of the r&b game.

The thing I always found funny about the Weeknd, and it's not really anything to do with him but more with his fans.

They swear he's this deep well of knowledge, that in his music are these dense layers of profundity that most people can't comprehend even though his songwriting topics are banal and he's become a caricature of himself.

It's actually quite funny.

I thought Thursday was some of his best writing. That middle stretch of songs is just :wow:

Thursday
The Zone
Birds Part 1
Birds Part 2
Gone
Rolling Stone

Cause getting faded too long
Got me on this rolling stone
So I take another hit
Kill another serotone
With a hand full of beans
And a chest full of weed
Got me singing bout a bytch
While I'm blowing out my steam
Yeah I know I got my issues
Why you think I fukkin' flow?
And I'mma keep on smoking 'til I can't hit another note
But until then...

I got you
Baby I got you
Until you're used to my face
And my mystery fades
I got you.

So baby love me
Before they all love me
Until you won't love me
Because they all love me

I'll be different
I think I'll be different
I hope I'm not different
And I hope you'll still listen
:wow:
